The Positivity Thread aka "Today was a great day because....."

(so how long do we keep this going? oh never mind!)

crusty jugglers... dog muck... when I'm actually 53! A GREAT BIG BUSHY BEARD!

TIL : standard wired iPhone earpods are completely fine even if you leave them in your pockets during a wash cycle.
Bonus fun fact : my wife found them while hanging up the wash, and neatly hung them up with a clothespin to dry out

I've had a pair of cycling shoes for pretty much exactly three years now, it's fitted with a BOA lace system. Today I went for a ride, unfortunately one of the laces broke mid-ride so I rode about 50 km with an untied shoe. I just found out BOA has a lifetime guarantee on the dial and the laces and the order process for a free repair kit is as painless as it can get: I have no idea which type of BOA system is fitted to my shoes, but the websites asks you a couple of questions regarding how you fasten/unfasten the laces, if there is a hole in the middle of the dial etc., based on that (and a photo you have to upload) they determine which system you have. It's pretty much twenty questions, but specific to the BOA systems. (y)

OK, even more positive: with the appropriate repair guide I was able to dismantle the dial, pull out the broken end of the lace and relace the shoe. It seems the lace was way too long before it broke so those 12 cm weren't even needed. This means it seems I'll probably have a free replacement dial on the way sometime next week which I don't even need...

I just fired an E-Mail to their support that I might not need the replacement if they deem the shortened lace safe, let's see if they'll send it anyway...

3 months later, same deal.
Now I'm on 150€ and they're proposing 304€ because ... reasons?
Energy prices have gone down, my usage has stayed roughly the same (around1000 kWh/month pretty consistently)
Why are they doing this!

my colleagues have been debating forever and ever on introducing an automated sales tool for customer retention. i.e. it should analyze customers consumption and ideally identify certain patterns and automatically suggest tariffs (of which we only offer like... three?) to make the customer happier and keep him.

looking at this crap - and the way that our system determines monthly payments - I'm fairly sure it's a good thing they never got around to introducing this...

they're currently working on a dynamic tariff* (i.e. a tariff that has an hourly price directly coupled to electricity markets)... a whole new world of opportunity to screw shit up, but at least that just actually gets billed every month (yes it needs a connected smart meter to work) and no longer works with those pre-set monthly offset payments, which are always broken somehow.

* because they have to offer one by law until 2025...

I guess they introduced "AI" into the mix. That's pretty much exactly what you get when you do that without knowing exactly what AI can and can't do...

And without any regard for whether AI would offer any advantage over a much more simple and foolproof way of doing things...

This assures me we don’t need to fear AI and it isn’t coming to take all our jobs since it’s daft.

Because I went on holiday and charged on public chargers mostly, I nearly didn’t charge at home this month. This does not mean this is the new normal

That's impressive: I filed the warranty request on Sunday late at night, today (remember, it's Tuesday) the replacement kit (dials for both sides since they're directional plus two replacement laces) arrived from Austria. On closer inspection I just saw that the protective layer of the right lace has been worn away so I'll replace it preemptively so it doesn't cut into the fabric loops attached to the shoe.

Ah, Tuesday, Wednesday, same diffference...

That leads me to the next positive thing: at work the support of a software everyone in my company uses (no, it's not MS Office) fixed a bug last Friday. That means since Monday we've had about 75% fewer support calls, maybe that's why I thought it's only Tuesday...

DINstag: find a car with a german DIN plate
Mettwoch: eat a mettbrötchen
Dönnerstag: eat a Kebab.

I reached for a bag of candy that is stashed next to my recliner and I got a different bag. At first I was annoyed, but then I realized that I have 2 bags of candy.

I flew a plane today (kinda).
Went to one of those "look at airplanes and classic cars" shows because my son is into planes (and I'm into cars).
Turns out you can get a ride in a Cessna or helicopter for an actual reasonable price, so we figured why not.

I did not expect it to take 30 minutes and I also did not expect the pilot to say 'wanna try flying' halfway through.
Technically I was in control for about 2 minutes and I managed 1 (one) left turn, but doesn't matter, still counts.

Pilot did take control again when it got bumpy and windy during the landing (thankfully).

Bonus : my family "see where everyone is" app went nuts saying I did 212 kph and alerted my wife and other son of this fact.
