I usually don't mind Christmas because who doesn't like presents, good food and drink? But ugh, not this Christmas. Too much people I don't know are going to be in my personal space and my mom has been hyping up this and I just know it's going to end in a disaster. Plus I'll be forced to socialize with people I don't like or know and spend money on them. Fuck that. *Puts on her grouch hat*

I'm a soft sod when it comes to Christmas. Living at home with my parents is always handy at that time of year because it means I don't really have to do much, and I enjoy the whole thing. Presents don't concern me as much as they used to, which I suppose is natural but it's nice to have some stuff to open on the day (Oh yes, new Clarkson book and DVD will do nicely ). I still and always will buy an advent calendar because having chocolate on each day is awesome no matter what anyone says and I love Christmas dinner. Christmas for us is a small family thing so I'm not forced to meet relatives I don't like (not that there are any I don't like, fortunately).

The commercial side doesn't really bother me too much, I don't tend to watch much live TV now so I don't see the adverts, I don't read newspapers and I'm not in one of those saving things that will inevitably go bankrupt before you can buy the stuffing for the turkey. We did have a giant advent calendar outside our office a couple of years ago though that had people singing every day, that started to get annoying.

Hopefully that brain vomit made sense, I have no idea what it'll be like in 10 or so years time though. Hopefully pretty similar. :)

Jesus people it's fucking september still! Do not speak of the darkness that comes with christmas! It will hear.

You mean the short days? It's already getting dark at 7:30 here. I doubt that our days are as short as yours though.

I love christmas! For me it's all about seeing my loved ones and eating awesome food. And christmas carols at church at midnight (one of the two times I go to church every year). I fucking love them (and mean that with no irony or sarcasm whatsoever). We don't have any family (ie aunties, uncles, cousins) in Melbourne, so our christmas day lunch is filled with other 'family-less' friends...possibly being able to choose who we spend the day with makes it more awesome  Since working in retail last year it's been a bit harder for me to avoid the rampant over-commercialisation that starts up around this time of year, but I just focus on the feeling of christmas, of giving and loving and sharing and being with the people you love most.

I like Christmas, I admit it does end up disappointing me every year, but I'd rather have it than not. My family is quite detached from our relatives so we get to skip the whole "meet drunk Uncle Bill from herpderpton" ordeal so instead Christmas for me is just a nice quiet time where I fly back to Hong Kong and sip hot chocolate while watching the people pass by.

I haven't been "over Christmased" for the past several years, for obvious reasons, so I'm looking forward to it this year. And, now that I'm in PA, it better be a White Fucking Christmas, goddammit!

Being in Bethlehem, I think you are going to get a heavy dose of Christmas cheer this year - be prepared.

There should be a poll option for "I'm dead inside and therefore indifferent to every single day of the year, even birthdays"
This. I had to be talked into celebrating my own birthday this year. What's there to celebrate? 25 years of failure?

Christmas (the superficial, Santa'd out version that lasts for months) sucks. It doesn't even seem to have any connection to the actual holiday anymore--it's all spending and inevitably whining about spending. I told my parents that I'd rather not bother with it and they refuse to listen to me. I hate it starting up in freaking summer nowadays. I hate the terrible music that makes me want to punch people in the throat. I hate the bland food that's usually for Christmas dinner. I tend to get a lot of stuff I don't need, which makes the whining about Christmas being so stressful/expensive/[enter complaint here] not worth it. Why is anyone bothering with me, anyway? I haven't done anything to deserve attention. Stuff usually doesn't make me happy, unless it's stuff I can do awesome things with (car, camera, etc.) or stuff that'd actually have some meaning to it ('lumps).

Bah freaking humbug. If you'll excuse me, I need to find a nice rock to hide under before anyone whips out "Jingle Bells." No song in the history of music makes me want to light things on fire as much as freaking "Jingle Bells."

I couldn't bring myself to say I'd shoot Santa, but I would honestly rather ignore it this year than celebrate. What is there to celebrate? All my days blend together into an endless string of boredom and nothingness anyway.

I'll just leave this here...

I'm looking forwards to Chirstmas, seeing as I really like traditional Christmas carols, it means no school, and we will hopefully be going to see the family in England.... :w00t:
I am excited about that!
I've already broken out the massive book of carols we have and started to play them on the piano... Just as well mum likes them too!

I obviously enjoyed it a lot when I was a kid, mostly for the presents.

Now it's more of a little island of light and warmth in the middle of the dark (sundown at 3:45 pm FTL) and the shitty weather, having a break from work and just enjoy the company of family and friends.

I have no idea how people further north get through the winter (I'm at 55 degrees north here).

Bah humbug.

It is not that I am a cranky old man, I am an atheist.

What the fuck has religion got to do with Christmas as we know it today?
