The "Things that annoy me" thread

Microcenter is 7 hours away, and Fry's is...jesus christ, Fry's. Imagine a store that has worse price tag accuracy than grocery section in a liquor store in the shitty part of town (They are still printed on a dot-matrix printer). Then, have every person in every department come up to you to try to get you to "write up your purchase" at their computer...just so you can have a piece of paper listing the items you have in your hand...that you still need to take to the front registers to pay...where everything (except token sale items) are stupid expensive, and it doesn't matter that there's a 3-facings-wide shelf space for something...it won't be there. It'll be in some random wire rolling bin over by the vacuum cleaners or next to the caf? that nobody is ever working in.

Fry's: where every floor model is defective, broken or missing parts...just as their "quality checked open-box" items.

Fry's: where you'll be hounded by everyone trying to get credit for the items you already have in your hand...but god forbid you actually need to get someone to help you.

Fry's: where they have a full two-room suite dedicated to home theater...where not a single thing has ever been working or turned on in the 16 years I've lived in the bay area.

But it's the place you go if you want to browse through their adult DVD section...or to browse the Anime just down the aisle from the porn, cuz, ya know, that doesn't get any strange looks from anybody.

Fry's: Where a 200-year-old indian man has to draw a highlighter line on your receipt before you can leave for some reason (there's no way that guy could read my receipt).

Fry's: Where the CPU cases (every single one of them is missing at least one front piece, and at least one side panel) are by the motherboards...but not by the video cards, which are over by the pre-built computers...which aren't over by the hard drives.

Fry's: when it comes to recognizable name brands, they are one step above a 99c store for seemingly at least half of their products.

They are actually about 50 miles round trip on 101...

Shit...am I actually considering it?

But damnit, I really want the NZXT Kracken X62...

Yikes, yeah, see...the only local "computer store" chain besides a lone Apple store in Lancaster is Worst Buy or HHGregg (which seemingly sells computers as a sideshow compared to their Appliance selection). Hearing tales of Fry's in the past made it seem great. Guess not.

There is a MicroCenter in Towson MD about a hour away. Just far enough to make it not worth visiting casually.

The hilarious thing about the Fry's in Palo Alto is that it's "wild west" themed. Yeah...that's about right. ha!

Keep in mind this is an electronics store:

Here's the famous "40 registers, but only two cashiers working at them, and they are inexplicably at #33 and 14 instead of right near where the line is."

Well, it looks like Newegg has it in-stock now, so I'll try NZXT one more time tomorrow before trying to cancel...somehow...and ordering on newegg with free 3-day.

Lack of cooler is down to whether you bought a box version or not. Almost any CPU comes in either. I didn't for mine, because I ordered a more powerful cooler for it alongside.

And whatever you do, don't get the box cooler. It's not efficient enough while being too loud and looking like poopoo.

Somehow I thought Intel were only doing boxed versions anymore, for some stupid reason. Then a friend of mine bought one and complained to me "where's the cooler". I told him he's better off buying an aftermarket one anyway... then he was about to skimp and go for a shitty 80mm fan craptastic piece of chinesium and only got saved from that, because a mutual friend still had an old noctua lying around. phew... I would've been the one having to listen to him bitch about his CPU overheat and be noisy and all that.

What do you mean by "box version"? Mine came in a retail box, seemingly large enough for a cooler, but with out one. I've heart BitWit and Linus mention it, as well in passing when putting together a build.

Got it. It sounds like since just earlier this year, they no longer come with coolers (at least, not Skylake). My i5 6600K looks exactly like your blue packaging, only that it's almost entirely empty save for the CPU itself.

I finally got ahold of NZXT and they said it might not ship until end of January. Fuck that noise. Cancelled, and ordered it through NewEgg. I'll have it before the weekend, I'll bet.

Ha, already got a Newegg tracking number. I'll have it Friday. Boo-ya! Computer build weekend: engage!

Some d-bag stole my credit card number. Now I have no credit card for work expenses while I'm out here for the week. At least the paycheck will come in soon and I still have my debit card....

When that happened to me, my credit card company over-nighted a card to me free, but only because i asked.

Yes, most CCs will overnight one to you.

Problem is, I don't think they'd send it to a hotel, or the jobsite I'm at tomorrow... I told them my situation and got a "sorry, it will be sent out in 3-5 business days to your billing address." I even asked if I could go to a local chase bank and the guy said that it won't speed up the process.

Same thing that happened to me with Amex when I was on a business trip in the USA. Had to use my personal credit card to pay the hotel bill, which normally goes against our travel policy.

Google once again removing options from the customer because reasons

http://winaero.com/blog/disable-material-design-in-google-chrome/

They disabled this option in version 55 meaning you now have to live with the shitty material design look.

I love the Material Design theme. I honestly don't notice much of a change in the UI tbh beyond ditching the "hamburger" menu for the "three dots."

I am running a theme though, but I use it unthemed at work. :hmm:

EDIT: looked at the post - the change is very subtle and the old version instantly is dated with its iOS 6 (another product with dated looking yet beloved for some strange reason visual design) esque use of gradients and stuff.

the iOS mail app's multiple conversation organization scheme. It was descending before iOS 10 now it's absolute garbage. I know there's more to the conversation but it just repeats messages that have no freaking information that I'm looking for.

Amen to that, damn it's annoying...

I am done with the snow already. In the first week of real snow, I have a bit more than a foot of the heavy crap. Tired of being cold and shoveling. I just need to move down south and be done with it.
