The "Things that annoy me" thread

I dont care are bout the money i want them super dildos there

Only if you‘ve worked up to them, otherwise… ow? Or is this one of those „hurts so good“ things i don‘t understand?

I want to know why YouTube has decided to advertise bras to me. I know I am a little overweight, but I assure you, I don't need a bra.

One of the local weather people uses the word skosh a skosh to much.

Both of my TVs have Bluetooth to connect my phone to be able to use the TV's built-in speakers, but DON'T have the ability to watch TV and listen to it with Bluetooth head/earphones. Newer versions of both do have that function, but...still.

I bet that saved them $0.90 when they made it!

NEXT IN THE BABBOE CARGO BIKE RECALL SHIT SHOW!!! yes, i am mad. at all parties involved. fucking incompetent fuckheads.

some six weeks ago babboe announced that all their contract mechanics would offer a free frame inspection and would then give you a certificate stating its soundness. so far so good. when I called at the closest babboe contract mechanic - and the only one in riding range from our home - in order to schedule this, two days before the inspections were supposed to start, they said they didn't know ANYTHING about this. they'd heard, from their customers and the media and whatnot, but why would babboe inform the actual mechanics having to actually do the work? wowza...

anyway, I later managed to schedule an inspection... and my wife rode there this morning. not too far, but ~10km on a potentially unsafe bike, riding slowly... not great, right. and then when she arrived, they flatout refused to do it and told her no other mechanic would do it either and all they could offer her was a regular bike inspection she'd have to apy for. WHY WOULD YOU NOT SAY SO FROM THE START FOR FUCKS SAKE?

what the FUCK are they all thinking, honestly? what is this shitshow?

The feeling when the post office app kindly offers a selection of pickup points for your AliExpress package, only to have your selection overruled a couple of days later.

No, "the post office closest to you" is not the most convenient one when it's in the middle of the town center where parking is a PITA.

I love it when the span between the very early morning "your package is availble for pickup" and "your package is out for delivery" messages is, like, 17 minutes...just enough to get dressed and on the road most of the way there. Especially when you know you could have had it all day, but delivery to my home likely won't happen until 9:30pm.

I‘m getting annoyed with Deutsche Post/DHL (i know, technically separate). I have in my overall package delivery info to just leave the box at my door. Its ignored half the time. I had something I really wanted before going out of town on Thursday and I would have had it because i left in the evening anyways, but no its now at a store in town.

Oh I could write a book about how catastrophically shit our post office is.
I (like most people I guess) only use it to send packages back and forth, and aside from opening times being shit and the lines being super long, they now have these big semi automated boxes where you can drop something off, scan a QR code and be on your merry way.

Atleast thats what I assumed. Arrived there (on a deserted parking lot) to find it was one of the "new" post box thingies without a screen / keypad.
You need to activate these via the app. No problem, I downloaded the app (after needing to give it permission for EVERYTHING because reasons), and started the registration process. It needed my name, adress, shoe size, sexual preference and favourite coffee blend before it failed, citing "an unexpected error has occured, please try again". So I did. Same deal. Third time I was finally approved as a user, but only after I needed to reset my carefully chosen password because ... reasons. This was a 2 factor authentication, which means I needed to wait for a text AND an email both containing a code. The email arrived, the text didnt. Of course this login was time sensitive, so after 30 seconds... timeout, please try again.

I was about to throw my package onto the road and have it destroyed rather than continue this, but after the second try I finally was logged into the program! After some looking around I finally found the spot where I was, and told it to open the box so I could (finally after 20 minutes of app faffing) deposit my package and leave. First it wanted me to use another box several kms away despite it knowing my location, and after me manually selecting said location it just said "there's a problem with this location, please go to another one".

I was properly raging now, so I just deleted the app drove to the nearest newspaper shop, where the whole "depositing a package" process took literally 4 seconds. Package to be sent, scan barcode *beep*, instant confirmation email, kthxbye.

Yeah... that seems to be a very personal thing with the actual delivery person. Some of them ignore the info provided altogether, others have their own thing (like our usual guy will just ditch the package in the blue bin if it's out, but that's not "official" or anything).
What annoys me is that I can set the packstation for all packages addressed to my home... but it seems completely random which packages actually go there and which ones for whatever reason (???) can't be re-routed to it and instead are tried to be delivered here. additionally, if the closest station is full or something, the next one is an easy 5km away... so I'd much rather have them bring it to the shop that's just down the road. but no.

... it's like the system is sort of well thought out, giving a few options you'd not necessarily expect, but it's not "finished" or thought all the way to the end somehow. same with the delivery people ignoring the instructions...

my experience with the DHL boxes has mostly been stellar, tbh. although...

DHL do these now as well (or have been for two years?), but luckily I have yet to experience one. the one I use still has a QR code reader to log in, and a touchscreen and everything. I dread the moment they replace it with the bluetooth bullshit, because the app is weird... although maybe it'll just work? I dunno...

Seeing your experience registering, I'm really happy I signed up for this service back in the stone ages when they first started it, because then it was all easy and nobody had heard of 2FA / 3FA and all that and I'm now registered and can't change passwords and mobile phone without fuss.

also: some boxes offer to even print your sticker for you, but I've never risked it. always print it out myself and tape it on, rather than stand there and be greeted by "sorry the roll of stickers is empty goodbye"... come to think of it, our local box even has "just ditch your shit here even without a box". no idea how that's supposed to work out, honestly.

I emphasize with @NooDle 's app experience. I have had several similar experiences that run from the mild, to those that make me wonder about personal and medical information are being exposed.

I started using the online ordering system a for a pizza chain a few years ago. It was mostly problem free. Then they started advertising "if you order through the app, we will deliver anywhere you are". Well, I tried using it once when my appointment at a medical office was going to run way late to thank the staff for staying late. I got a call 10 minutes after the delivery was scheduled, to be told that branch didn't deliver on Mondays. Really? Why wasn't that in the information online, and in the app?

Then there was the time that I was in the emergency room and the hospital switched over to letting the patient do part of the registration process themselves while laying in the ER. Three times I had to reset the password before the nurse noticed my frustration and told me that they were having problems with the computer system that day.

The rush to make everything more convenient has really been inconvenient.

This. Someone at some corporate office decides : "make an app, it's what everyone is doing, so we need to also do this. Because then the young kids will use it and thats what we want".

Having an app for the sake of being able to say "we have an app" is not a thing.

in CORPORATE EVERYWHERE it very much seems to be THE THING. it's the dumbest trend I've ever seen... nobody wants MORE APPS... if anything, people want LESS apps cluttering up their phones. but no, providing certain information through a simple mobile website? pffff, gotta container that shit into a standalone app! added value or anything from that? NONE. who cares WE AHVE AN APP HURRRRR [insert meme with the sensible guy getting thrown out the window]

:hammer:

Well, that and the way they all seem to forget about the stuff that needs to go on behind the scenes to make the app work in the first place.

I constantly run into problems with the data that the actually pretty decent Deutsche Bahn app uses to calculate train and transit connections. The most recent egregious example was it showing me a train that wasn’t actually running due to track works, said little unimportant detail was the third and last of the small print notifications of irregularities that you seem to get for each and every train journey nowadays. It said “There’s a database error, these trains are not running, check the correct schedule information on http://www.whydidntwedothisproperly.de/becausefuckyouthatswhy/andnowyourescrewedhaha.pdf” and that PDF was an even worse kind of hard to understand mess than I had expected.

Airline apps, with the exception of the beloved (by me anyway) United Airlines app, often aren’t any better. To the point where they’re so poorly made that they refuse inputs that the website will gladly accept… this example was Iberia, which is crap anyway, but BA and their “Let’s just load a website in the app, which will then feature a banner telling the user to download our app!” approach is only slightly less dubious.

The company my mother works part-time for have changed their fob-based clocking in/out system for an app based one, that she had to install on her personal phone. It uses location data and face recognition for something that worked perfectly fine just swiping a little fob, and it's unclear how that location data is used. It might not be reported outside of a geofenced area, I still wouldn't want it on my personal phone though.

What happens if you were to forget the phone on the way into work, or dropped and broke the phone?

And that is the least of my worries. Who in the company has access to the location data? Will you be questioned for calling in sick when you went out to eat the night before? Even if the data was limited to what was happening on company property, are you showing enough loyalty to the company by arriving early enough? Spend to much time in the bathroom? It could get Orwellian fast.

These are all the things I thought of. My mother is close enough to retirement to not care about the timings and keeping the job, but the data is more of a concern and she really doesn't need that extra hassle. It's clear that the people in charge don't understand this system so it might go away by itself. Apparently it's this crap. They have this gem on the website:

Their site suggests that it collects GPS data at all times and is intended to be a tracking app. I might remove this from her phone for her...

It's a hill I would be prepared to die on, I don't have a work phone and as such refuse to use anything beyond an authenticator on my personal phone. There's absolutely no way I would install this on a personal device.
