James May: The weekly Telegraph column by James thread

About time! The Panda's functional, but hardly fun. :p

Brilliant column! You can almost feel his excitement, and still so, so funny. Long may he enjoy his new toy!

I googled this pic. It is a thing of beauty. Such a shame that Santa has left the building already. ;)

WOW. He might just have bought the most tasteful Ferrari of all time. That really is lovely.

I don't know what he's got to castigate himself about, my research shows he's spent less than ?100,000 buying a beautiful car that's much less "shouty" than most Fezzas. ;)
Certainly this year he's worked pretty hard, so a nice Christmas/birthday pressie is in order! :)

Wow! That is... really a gorgeous car. That's the most tasteful Ferrari I've ever seen, to be honest. Huzzah, James!

The external color is pretty (I'm partial to Verde Zeltweg [Metallic Green]) and I think the interior color he chose compliments it well.

I'm amazed to see that he did the right thing and bought one that could be considered mostly new! Congratulations James!

Struth! That's one nice ride! Very classy too, much like the man himself.

I'm glad he went with that now rather than red. (Or, in my opinion, the more lurid yellow.) As nice as red is, James and silver's a much better match. It's more befitting his personality and bloody gorgeous to boot.

Congratulations, James! You've done well!

I also admit, I would have loved to see him in the red. But that color I think really suits him.

Congrats James, and:

About time!

But, please, don't take the tools into bed..that's just...well....:p

Although I was in the "it has to be red or nothing" camp, after seeing the picture (thx LindenChase) I think this car would look kind of ordinary in red, if you can say that about a Ferrari. The silver color allows the curves to be the prominent feature- I think I can honestly say that is the most beautiful car I've ever seen. It's just stunning!
Can a car be art? In this case, I say Yes, oh Yes! :p

Boxsters aren't fun? ;)

Here, here.

I'm okay with the silvery grey, too (even though I was firmly in the "red or else" camp myself). Thank the driving gods he didn't go with yellow.

Very close to car porn, that car (I think it's the curves) - yet incredibly tasteful at the same time.

I love his comment about being "still under the influence of the broadcasting personality" when he went in to buy it.

I am not a big fan of red cars but this car in silver is nearly as nice has a DB9.
BTW Is this car on the cool wall.
Also is its true that Richard now owns a DB9 because that means it will have to be moved out of the fridge.

Awe, I'm so happy for him! I hope he really enjoys it (so much so that he keeps on writing about it, it's extremely amusing).

One of the comments had me cracking up. "You didn't actually want the car did you? it was the spanners and the handbooks you really craved." LOL

Can't be bothered to wait and see if the DT staff remember to put it online. Thanks as always to the lovely Maygrail for the scan. This week, James rattles on about his Ferrari and apologizes for it. ;)

Wow, makes me look forward to my midlife crisis, maybe I'll buy one as well! :p

I was so pleased he bought the grey one- I'm certain it was because I told him to! Everyone else was in favour of Red, but a grey one went past me a few weeks ago, and I thought it was the nicest, most non-wanky Ferrarri I'd ever seen. So well done James, on taking my advice. ;)
