Do it for me.
Just wondering if anyone here has attended the filming of Top Gear? I just found out I'm going to be in the UK for a year, so (of course) I'm gonna play up the touristy thing, and try to get in on the show.
I just registered on the site for tickets, looks like the coming season is sold out, but there's a reserve section. Is there a cost to the tickets? Anyone know if the track is "open" ie. can I bring a rental out, and show those jaded chaps how a real man from the colonies can drive? Can someone send me a FinalGear t-shirt to bring? Or better yet, some American muscle, like an S7?
Seriously though, any info on how to get into the studios would be of great help!

To quote Clarkson from TopGear Magazine:

"... At the moment, there are 190,000 people on the waiting list for Top Gear. And with space for only 500 a week, it would take 19 years to accommodate them all..."

Hope that answers your question.

Tickets are free. Every week they take the tickets from the people that canceled or for any other reason can't make it to that week's shooting and give them to some random person from the waiting list. Usually that person gets a whole bunch (well, at least 2, that's what you get with the compulsory 50/50 man to woman ratio thing), with the result that some clever people all register together and when one of them gets tickets they all go. Like 3,4 or 5 times in a row *coughHammondHeavencough* >_< As far as I understand, when you get into the studio you get a plastic bracelet: don't remember the exact colors but I think white for guests, yellow for crew and red for VIPs/presenters, each one permitting access to more restricted areas than the previous. I don't think people are allowed to bring their cars to the track though. It would probably end up in utter chaos if everyone could just do that.

I did a GIS for Top Gear, and got some pics that someone must have took during the episode Jeremy drove the Ford GT round the track. It was cool seeing them out of normal context.

I've been on twice. After reading this post, it looks like I shold be playing the lotto.

Points: You need to go with a chick. A hot chick if you're trying to get in at the door for "will-call". This is TV afterall...

Always send off for the tickets, and you can either: A. Hock them; or B. Use them

If anything, the little envelope you get is a neat "keepsake" along with your wristband - if you make it to the show.

Good luck! I was on Season Two and Three, when it was just starting to really take off into the massive show it is now. I've met Perry Mccarthy, who was the Stig that got killed (I think that cat is out of the bag already, I'd assume), and might I mention, a HECK of a nice guy.

All in all, my 6 years of college and "touristy" stuff over there really was fun. I never saw as many shows, tiny shit-box cars, museums, cops with clubs, chicks barfing at the local dance clubs, roundabouts, and bad drivers before in my life. Well, barring Holland or France for the bad drivers....

LOL good luck and be sure to get a lot of photos. It's a lot of fun.

LOL, yep, that's really an x-ray.

oh - and a real pharmacy tag too.. lol. I thought that would be a keen addition to this forum, since everyone has a cool avatar...

I would have to say not really if there is new info in the thread... but then again, I'm not the repost police, or the local flame-meister

Like mine! :p

But you have the "sig"....

I was hoping to get tickets, as a canadian studying in france for 5 months, I was hoping to get in the may taping, but I doubt I would get tickets. I'm sure there are a million people who email the show asking for tickets too, so I doubt that would work.....

Yeah, getting tickets for May might be a bit of a stab, but you should try anyway; get on that reserve list, and say you're with a group of people. I'm going to do that for next season's filmings, if I get any extra tickets, I'll post them up here.

Maybe make up some absurd challenge and offer it to Jeremy or the producers; say you're blind, deaf, and mute, and yet you can probably get around the track in less than 2 minutes. And just fake it when you get there....
