I didn't really know where to put this, so to prevent any political discussion developing in some other section, I post this here. :)

#10: "I want you to know. Karyn is with us. A West Texas girl, just like me." -Nashville, Tenn., May 27, 2004

#9: "Then you wake up at the high school level and find out that the illiteracy level of our children are appalling." -Washington, D.C., Jan. 23, 2004

#8: "Free societies are hopeful societies. And free societies will be allies against these hateful few who have no conscience, who kill at the whim of a hat." -Washington, D.C., Sept. 17, 2004

#7: "I want to thank the astronauts who are with us, the courageous spacial entrepreneurs who set such a wonderful example for the young of our country." -Washington, D.C. Jan. 14, 2004

#6: "We will make sure our troops have all that is necessary to complete their missions. That's why I went to the Congress last September and proposed fundamental - supplemental funding, which is money for armor and body parts and ammunition and fuel." -Erie, Pa., Sept. 4, 2004

#5: "After standing on the stage, after the debates, I made it very plain, we will not have an all-volunteer army. And yet, this week - we will have an all-volunteer army!" -Daytona Beach, Fla., Oct. 16, 2004

#4: "Tribal sovereignty means that; it's sovereign. I mean, you're a - you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And therefore the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities." -Washington, D.C., Aug. 6, 2004

#3: "I hear there's rumors on the Internets that we're going to have a draft." -second presidential debate, St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 8, 2004

#2: "Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country." -Poplar Bluff, Mo., Sept. 6, 2004

#1: "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." -Washington, D.C., Aug. 5, 2004

The last one is funny, yet at some point, to some extent...

You know, when he was first elected (all those years ago...) I was shocked that he couldn't really give a speech...

But then these Bush sayings started popping up everywhere like these and I realised that actually he could give a better (more comical/entertaining) speech than most - providing you were listening to the words!

Muppet. :)

Haha those are pretty funny!

Ooohhh boy. You let this man run your country? :?

A West Texas girl, just like me.
I'm sure going to miss him in 2008... ;) *

Maybe he'll be a standup comedian afterwards? I can see him on Last Comic Standing, teaching Jay Mohr a thing or two on being funny.

* I really won't. But we won't have somebody to laugh at anymore, or it won't be as fun, at least...

He is absolutely the WORST public speaker I've ever seen, but the man does have a great sense of humor. All too often that sense of humor is mistaken as him stumbling over his words, but a lot is intended.

EDIT: I got a damn good laugh out of this one:
"Free societies are hopeful societies. And free societies will be allies against these hateful few who have no conscience, who kill at the whim of a hat."

^HAHAHA! The whim of a hat. I mean honestly, who the hell says that, it's so incredibly random!

John Howard says some pretty appalling things on occasion, but nothing compares with good old Dubya. Has anyone told him what OB-GYNs actually do?

Bush isn't shy about admitting his own poor public speaking abilities either.
I've heard him on more than one occasion making fun of himself for it.

Last night, a talk radio show was doing a contest where you had to guess what Al Sharpton was saying.
Every caller had to translate a sentence. Winners got a prize.
You'd be surprised that there are worse speakers than Bush.

Whilst some of them really are rather funny, I don't see the problem with these two.

"They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

Re-read that sentence.

It seems to be rather prudent to think about how to harm the country. That way, they might be able to anticipate possible threats.

The first thing you do when you set up an engagement area on the defense is you walk out and look at the enemy's point of view.

To claim that that line is a 'Bushism' is a deliberate misinterpretation.

Astronauts aren't entrepeneurs, which are people who start businesses.

As for the latter, not many people interpreted it the way you did, so it became a Bushism because people thought that the president wanted to harm us. (No comment on that.)

Finally, I've just realized that your avatar is a tank barrel! For the entire time I thought it was a bike handlebar or something!

Re: Entrepreneur, I missed out on that one. That said, my dictionary says 'business or enterprise', and whilst space exploration isn't really a business, it's certainly an enterprise. I'm reaching here though!

Another common 'bush is an idiot' mistake is a picture where he's holding up a pair of binoculars in Korea and the lens caps are on. What people tend not to know, however, is that those binoculars are designed to be used with the lens-cap on when using the range-finding feature. They don't bother to think. It's a problem with partisan politics in the US. Far too much knee-jerking on both sides of the fence.

It's not just a tank barrel.. it's my tank barrel! Or at least, was. The tank was turned in some time ago, though it served me well... Even shows up in Google Earth, since I knew where to look for it!
