A friend of mine showed me this today, thought I'd share...

Top 5 most dangerous roads of the world
#1: ?Road of Death? - Bolivia
North Yungas Road is hands-down the most dangerous in the world for motorists. This one clearly endangers your life. It runs in the Bolivian Andes, 70 km from La Paz to Coroico, and plunges down almost 3,600 meters in an orgy of extremely narrow hairpin curves and 800-meter abyss near-misses. A fatal accident happens there every couple of weeks, 100-200 people perish there every year. In 1995 the Inter-American Development Bank named the La Paz-to-Coroico route ?the world?s most dangerous road.?

#2: Guoliang Tunnel in Taihang mountains (China)
The wall of the tunnel is uneven and there are more than 30 ?windows? of
different sizes and shapes. Some windows are round and some are square, and they range from dozens of metres long to standard-window-size. It is frightening to look down from the windows, where strange rocks hanging form the sheer cliff above and a seemingly bottomless pit lying below. A village, opposite the tunnel, appears to hang on the precipice.

#4: Russian Siberian Road to Yakutsk
The official federal-government highway to Yakutsk, and it is also the only one to get there. This can turn into a major humanitarian disaster during rainy spells, when the usual clay covering of the road turns into impassable mud blanket, swallowing trucks and tractors alike.

Awesome post, and very frightening

Edit: A thought just struck me, with that crazy tourist thing. Ok so they have created that......but how did the people that built the building at the end get there in the first place???!?!??!!??!

Kite surfing accident? :p

Seriously though, All of those except possibly the Russian Highway look like utter insanity from my point of view. Avoiding at all costs, methinks.

Seen the others but not #2 and #5, which look AWESOME. Give me a Caterham and a parachute (in case i go over) and I'd be there in an instant.

Top Gear should do something with the Russian Siberian Road to Yakutsk. I'd like to see what vehicles they come up with to handle that road.

exactly the same thought i had just about 20secs ago. gimme a cabriolet, a parachute and go down number 1 as if your tail's on fire (and with the other traffic blocked off). that would be brilliant. actually of the roads in here, i only think the first one is kinda scary. the other ones with the tunnels and stuff .. well there's tunnels like that in the alps. so what? doesn't strike me as particularily dangerous, but maybe i'm just not seeing it right.

and that footpath thing. reminds me of the meteora monastery in greece. similar location and all that. and yes, the question has to be asked. how the heck did they build it? few guys using climbing gear going up and then using ropes to pull up timber or whatsitmade off?

awesome, 5 more spots added to the list of places i need to go to.

tbh that russian thing doesn't look scary at all. ya ok, mud and stuff, so? getting stuck in the middle of siberia is not scary, it's annoying is all (imo). and the winter shot of it looks absolutely beautiful. going up there in the snow should be loads of fun (in a proper setup car)...

great post, thanks

I'm trying to figure out why people are driving the Russian road in regular old vehicles when it must have rained prior to that. Also, I think the 1st road is dangerous by my standards, but the traffic makes it x2 as dangerous. Any tourist using that Chinese hiking trail is out of their mind...

I think Charlie and Ewan took that road on Long Way Round.

I'd say any road in China is dangerous if you have to drive one of their cars (think folding tent).

Absofuckinglutely. I'm sure they're "perilous" in their own right, but they look far safer than the "Death Road" in Bolivia.

The first one is madness, but the second one is absolutely beautiful. I would love to drive on that road! And seeing that village on the other side.. It must be pretty incredible to see.

Yeah this has been posted a couple times, though I never tire of seeing it.
