has anyone seen this?

A transport pressure group yesterday demanded the end of the popular BBC2 programme ?Top Gear?, claiming it promotes irresponsible driver behaviour. It wants a replacement show called Third Gear, which would promote ?sensible driving in sensible vehicles.?

erm... WTF

"Half of its regular audience of 3 million viewers is women. A recent example [of discussing green issues] would be in December 2004, when an engine was featured that was half electric and half petrol powered."

if half of the viewers are women... how come there is only 1 girl on this board

?In an infamous episode?, Jeremy Clarkson tore up on camera information from Transport 2000?s website presenting the dangers of speed.
what episode was that anyway all this article is going to do is make top gear more popular so lets give Michael Palin and transport 2000 a big  damn hippies

theres been loads of episode where he flames the speed camera... theres one where he pulls it down with a Range rover, 1 where he tries to beat it and one where he shows how speed cameras do not replace policemen (I think this is the one they are talking about)

from the TG episode guide http://forum.finalgear.com/viewtopic.php?t=179

if you bothered to even look... it is mentioned several times. I even bolded the parts where they mentioned it so you don't have to read through ;)

Top Gear 2002 series one -1

-- Oct 20 -- Citroen Berlingo Multispace, Mazda 6, Zonda vs Murcielago, speed camera, Harry Enfiled

Top Gear 2004 series four -7

-- July 11 -- The Stig power laps the amazing Spyker, Jeremy puts the Mercedes CL65 and the Spyker through their paces, Richard and James go mini-cabbing in London, Speed cameras are under discussion in the studio, The Mercedes CL65 is pitched against the Bentley Continental GT and the Aston Martin DB9, Lionel Richie/Star in a reasonably priced car

i was wondering what was the ? infamous episode? that tranport 2000 was talikng about since they didnt mention it in the ariticle i wasnt even intrested in knowing what the exact episode was

this is sooo funny lmao

can't believe the bbc had to pay for jc's crash test :bangin:

I think seeing that Top Gear is BBC2's highest rated TV show... I think BBC would do whatever it takes to keep it up... so I guess we don't have to worry

- In a race against colleagues using public transport and plane, Clarkson drove a Ferrari more or less non-stop from London to Switzerland and was stopped by police for speeding on the way.
   NOT SPEEDING!!!!! That maniac, hang him!
- Clarkson deliberately drove a car into a tree in a car park in Somerset to test the strength of the car in a crash. The programme ended up apologising and paying compensation to the local parish council for the damage caused.
I thought the tree won that collision
Despite this multitude of crimes
What? All five?

Seems like the BBC doesn't care so that's good.

I cant wait for JC to start talk?ng about the idiots in the studio news or make 1 show on about how Transport 200 sucks.

I think JC will tone down the next season following all these articles... maybe BBC might tell him to as well so that their show won't get cut-off

These people who want TG taken off the air are in a vast minority. I cannot see this happening to such a popular program around the country, Europe, and the world. BBC/TG has a responsibility to promote safe driving (which they do, by the use of a track). That is ALL they have a responsibility to do. TG or not, Kon...egg will still make their cars, Ferrari will still have the Enzo, and F1/CART/IRL/NASCAR will still be driving way to fast, using a hell of a lot of gas, and running in circles in order to bring amazing advancements in car control and safetly to this idiots who want to get rid of all non-electric cars.

Clarkson has too big an ego to tone down for anyone.

Expect the same old Top Gear with the same old hyjinx.

That's what I'm hoping for. I think it's funny when they try to act civil on purpose, but you can tell they're faking it

Yeah me too, I hope that they don't change, and it is hilarious when they try to act civil. I also can't wait to see their response on the show to it, because I doubt that they wouldnt at least joke about it once or twice. Oh well, 22 days until the new season starts :-D

If we must have Jeremy Clarkson on the television, let's give him something useful to do, such as trying out public transport or road-testing new bicycles. Perhaps he would like to drive a bus; he'd find it just as much fun as a Ferrari.

Clarkson driving a bus :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

fuckin hippies

I have a feeling this is why American car shows are so blant and boring.
Why doesn't BBC just broadcast those shows on the American Speed Channel? They are just as amusing as watching a grandmother knit a cardigan.

Americans usually just don't get british humor. Did you see the thread about the 911 owner's forum. They wanted to hang him when he liked the car, and we won't even mention the corvette forums.
