Top Gear Show/Site Suggestions

Id love to see all 3 presenters do a course with race cones (something that requires good car control and agility) then i would record each presenters time. Then they should get really drunk (something like (0.10) and get them to do the race course again to see just how much their skills have worsened.

Peter Fonda, and Jay Leno, are going to be at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, in July... just thought I'd mention that.

Looks like Fifth Gear is headed their way.... I was a bit slow on the uptake on that one.

Read this please, i guarantee its a good one.

i think they should do some kind of race where they get a really fast family saloon car like a bmw 330i, and a really crappy banger. then they should see which can get from one side of london to the other in the quickest time. they would use 2 routes, for the bmw it is a short route with lots of traffic but at some places on the route there wotn be much traffic so they can really thrash it. the banger on the other hand will take a longer route but there will not be much traffic on the whole route. then they can see which is the fastest.

How about a segment where they try and drive cars on the moon... that's about the only thing they haven't done!

Have you driven in London recently - clear roads?

Anyhow how about round the M25 clockwise, and straight through the City and finally round the M25 anti Clockwise that would be interesting if the motorway ones have to do the M4 in to town so they meet up in Hammersmith say. ...

They definitely need to race an S63 against an S65. Its not on youtube yet, so it hasn't been done, and I want to see the result.

or an SL65 Black vs. Sl65 vs. Sl63

Idea number 540, only slightly modified, with the McLaren F1 and Bugatti Veyron, instead of Jay Leno's Jet Car (though that would still be something that would be good for a laugh if Hammond were to drive it). The 3 cars for 3 presenters would make for a very interesting show. A real world road test, followed up by a real world race track test, followed up by an SSC Ultimate Aero, and the McLaren F1, going around the Top Gear test track, would make for something epic for car guys. This would make for a good follow-up to what we've already seen.

I suppose this is dangerous territory to tread upon, since the worship of the Veyron, by Europeans and Americans alike is unparalleled. This kind of correlates with the Ford Vs. Chevy type hatred, but this is more a European Vs. American type of thing.

Something in the garage here made me think of this.

Perhaps something could be done with a Stirling Engine

Maybe a big enough one could be used to power a Tesla Coil. A neon Top Gear sign could be put near the Tesla Coils so that it could be lit up.

This is probably an insurance nightmare, but if it isn't, it would be something pretty neat for the studio audience to experience.

I just thought of another website suggestion while browsing through:

Easier access to the photo galleries. They're a right bitch to find, unless you go through the blog posts and find the links. In the words of the Emperor Clarksonius, 4th (?) century BC: "How hard can it be?".

YES. I would love to have a photos tab with a list of recent galleries.

(Also yes it was 4th century BC)

This idea is an evolution of post #588

Perhaps this idea could be combined with something like Skip Barber driving school.

Perhaps if they do this in the United States, they could borrow some of their American friends cars. I could just picture two of the presenters being afraid of damaging their friends cars and their friendships, while one of the presenters could throw caution to the wind and, with reckless abandon, shred a car that belongs to a long time friend (which of course would be alright, since the friend was an American).

Further Edit: If done in the USA, the Skip Barber School could fit in nicely, as I believe you have to be SCCA licensed to participate in the US Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. It would probably be best to fly over, get licensed, come back, do the challenge.

If the motorcycle idea is a bit too unreasonable since it would be awful to ride a Bonneville long distance, maybe a Triumph TR3 could be used.

Edit: Got to thinking about this, and an ideal start point would be the Simeone Foundation Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Edit: I think about this idea a lot, and in doing so, came to the conclusion that adding Tiff Needell in when they get to the racetrack would be interesting and funny at the same time. Watkins Glen supposedly has the largest Vintage car race in the US.

I've been watching the new series of Scrapheap Challenge (now hosted by Dick Strawbridge) & I think the ultimate Scrapheap Challenge would be a Top Gear vs Fifth Gear Comic Relief Challenge. Obvious problems are the 3 different TV channels involved & the number of people in Fifth Gear. You'd need Tiff & Vicky, & either Johnny, Tom (my pick) or Tim for the James May position. If TG had the Stig, then FG could have JP.

But if all of this could be overcome, what would you like to see them build & race?

Ambitious, but rubbish keeps popping in to my head for some reason....

what about making submersible vehicles like they did on thunder races. Give them 1,000 to buy a car and modify them. Then take them to an area to see how far or how many times they can go under water in a certain amount of time.

I hate his voice.

What just came to my mind:

Popemobile-Challenge: Who can build the better popemobile for under 2000??

- build a car that would be able to be driven by a popular person like the pope that is both save and features good visibility for fans
- Stig will be doing a lap while the 'builder' will sit in the pope-seat with something important in hand (water, eggs, sculpture)
- ect.
