I think your idea of immigration is based on the American one. The problem is in France, and for people over there, it's not as simple as pack up and go home. First of all, most of their homes were ruined as a direct result of colonisation. France owes them, big time. Second of all, many of the rioters come from multiple generations of living in France. They didn't pack up and leave as children, they were born there. They are part of the culture, whether France likes it or not.
These rioters aren't mad jihadists out to set up an Islamic state, they're simply frustrated youth that can't find jobs because an name on a CV immediately gets turned down by employers. Most of these people have the credentials needed, it's just that no one wants to give them a chance.
