Looks great, but why no EV only option?

The new drivetrain – an upgraded version of that used by the previous Toyota Prius Plug-in – pairs a 147bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 158bhp EV motor on the front axle for a combined 221bhp, 100bhp up on its predecessor.

It makes me think of a Lucid Air however, Lucid did it better.

Because Toyota. Sadly.
I still don't understand it. MPG figures just aren't that impressive compared to the equivalent costs of running EVs. Admittedly that margin is decreasing as energy costs increase.

I can understand it, for I live in a dense city and can't actually plug an EV. Nor am I especially inclined to use public transport. It should also be pointed out that they have the still very new bZ4X available and sized to be right at the heart of the non-premium BEV market and that they also dropped a bZ compact SUV concept the same day. One that looks suspiciously like something that can be Prius rebranded in the future (Prius C II?)

BEV covers the needs of many people.

I didn't think I would ever say a Prius looked good, but I saw one of these yesterday and it actually looked good.
