My friend Polkky mentioned here somewhere in April that his friend went crazy and bought a Toyota Supra TT. And that was his first car. Well, that lunatic was/is me!

A year ago I didn't now almost anything about cars. They had four wheels, needed gas to run, had an engine, that's about all I knew. Then just about year ago I realised I had run out of challenges and interest in my previous "hobby", so I had to find out something to do. So I figured what if I bought a car. Since then I started to look for something which I would agree to be my kind of car. First I looked through some BMW E36 & E46 325 & 328:s, then I started to think that I don't really have a need for everyday-going-vehicle, so why not buy something more special. Well, then I moved forward to look for Nissan Skylines and then I found it: Toyota Supra. Yes, that was something I wanted.

First car I went to look was red N/A, which was in quite horrible condition. It was nice to drive and it felt good, but that just wasn't good enough. Then I found one okay looking one, which was a bit of a project and that way quite cheap in price. That's what I bought and this topic will be about.

Enough talking, here it is! Or actually, how it was this summer...Because at the moment it's, well, not in functioning condition anymore :D

Very nice! Have any mod plans or are you planning to enjoy it as is?

Are we talking something just broke and needs to be fixed or the engine decided it needed some viewing ports in the side f the block? :p

Nothing broken, just trying to get it (hopefully) better :) And yes, there's some plans. At first mainly switching old and worn-out parts to new and better ones. Including turbos ;)

Automatic?
Yeah, the only minus side in the car...At this point. But that can be changed too :D Not the first things to do, but perhaps after the A340E gearbox decides that there's too many horses for it to handle...

Whee, welcome!:D

Last year we had the Swift as a project, this year a Supra (and an mk.1 Escort). Next year a blimp?

Nice one. Shame you plan to modify it though, stock Supras are already far too rare...

Ohh there you are finally!

I love this car. Take good care of it, I beg you!

Oh but I have two questions.
1) You said you're planning an upgrade, including turbochargers. Sounds like it's not going to be a single turbo? :)
2) If it's a pre-facelift, why did some owner in the car's life cycle decide to paint it in Grayish Green Mica Metallic and even put the facelift sidemarkers on?

I have a feeling that sidemarkers at least would've been required to get it registered here.

This summer there was a rather similar looking silver/gray RHD automatic mk4 Supra parked at the space next to mine, and this has me wondering if this is the same car? :hmm: Though the paint on your car looks to be in a nicer shape.

I just can't stress this enough. I have an Australian friend with an about 98% (so far) stock supra --even the wheels are original!-- and it gets much, much more attention and approval than even the batshit insane ones. Even from the owners of said batshit insane ones.

The OEM fanatism gains more supporters year by year. Since these cars are now (more) than 20 years old and have been tuned to hell an back, the endeavor to keep it OEM/bring it back to OEM condition gets more and more people. It's always been the way that stock supras where much more cheaper than tuned ones. Now you sometimes can get a tuned single turbo one with a ludicrous amount of horsepower for cheap and stock ones strive towards inmeasurable heights.
Basically a normal procedure once a car gets closer to a historic status.
And I'm glad for it, this car is most beautiful in its stock condition.

If you are looking at the german/european market for factory LHD ones, you will find that the well kept and perfectly stock cars are on more expensive and more rare too. Modded ones are on the lower end of the pricerange, and well RHD ones of course even more.

Why would anyone want to keep a Supra stock, other than it being more "rare"? That's missing the whole point of owning these sorts of cars.

If you don't mind my asking, what was your previous hobby, that you figured you have "completed"? :p

Because they were damn fine just the way they came from factory?

It's not like he's building it into some kind of a tasteless racer, painting it pink and spoiling it otherwise: he's changing what needs to be changed due to age and adding a few horses in the process :p :D

Yeah, 20 years ago. It's got easily usable potential for so much more, so why not use it?

R.A., you could throw in some photos from the engine bay ;)

Well, tuning a 348 or 993 from the same period would result in people roaring how it is rape but if it's a Supra it's okay.

Even by today's standards a Supra is a good performer. Tuning it makes it worth less and less over the years, when the car will finally be 30 years old people will lust after those last few which have always been stock during their lifetime (different to once being tuned and de-tuned!).

As long as we're talking about upgrading with good taste, would you rather work on your own car in the way you see best or worry about what others think with every step?

In the end, Supra or not, you just compared a Toyota to a Porsche/Ferrari :p
