I was wondering what your suggestions would be for a hillclimb and trackday car would be.

I'm willing to spend about AUD$ 3-5 grand on the whole project, i.e the car, any repairs and modifications to make it comply with safety rules. Its not a lot of money, but I don't wanna win, just learn to car control and have some fun doing it. :burnrubber:

Heres what I'd like, but all ideas are welcome

1. Rear wheel drive.
2. An engine displacement of 3 Litres or less (petrol is expensive!!)
3. Cheap and easy to repair common problems. and not so common.
4. Good balanced handling, no chronic understeer or oversteer problems.
5. Flair 8) .i.e a really cool car, something that makes people take notice

Thanks to everyone

what about an old Mazda mx-5? ;)

Oh, very hard.

I'd say some kinda old mini. Hopefully repairs won't be as hard.

Or what about those holdens wih the skyline engines? Holden Vl's is what they're called I believe.

But i bet nothing beats a mini in your 5th demand :)

Ps, I don't think the mini is a very safe car

well... mini corners like go-carts as well... so it should have pretty good handling... just that the power isn't quite there

plenty of choices for a car if you only wanne have fun

i have been thinking what i would get before, and i narrowed it down to 4 cars
-old ford escord
-opel ascona
-ford capri
-BMW E30

would be hard to choose between one of them

Australia. Austria has Euro's :) japanese sports cars then, RWD nissan's, toyota's and stuff like that, you wont get any euro cars in australia for a low price like that.

yeah then in australia get what i said before. skyline GTS, FD RX7, Old Supra, Silvia s13,14,15 civic

3 grand is 3 thousand

Go for a RX3/Old datson/corolla with a 13B non-turbo in. Should be around many places as it's basically the defacto drag machine before moving onto something bigger.

Should have around 200kW at the wheels and weight well less than a tonne. And probably a locked rear diff, might want to get rid of that and hunt down a 2nd hand LSD.
Might get yourself killed in the process, but it's the fact that it might kill you is what gives you the thrill.

3k thats not a big budget!

5,000.00 AUD
Australia Dollars = 29,535.63 HKD
Hong Kong Dollars

in HK u cant get much either tbh.

hmmm 3k in AUD is 2700 in USD for that kinda money... try and find an AE86... other than that look for MX-5 or a datsun 510... honestly thats really short money for any car never mind a performance minded car for trackdays

no ae86 is over priced alot. mx5 might be a good option i guess. but i would want to get a silva myself. in hk that is possible for one in good conditon

it's pretty over priced in the US but thats because the GT-S is very very rare i got mine for a reasonably cheap 2k with only a few problems i am not sure how expensive they are in australia though the silvia is a good option because you can make more power easily with the SR as you bet better and better at car control and it has a huge aftermerket (tho the ae86 aftermarket is just as big) i still say get the miata (mx-5) stock is handles better than pretty much anything in your price range and with work it only gets better both the 1.6L and 1.8L engines are nice and easy to work on the only thing you need to worry about is the cranknose issue just make sure who ever your buying it from has had it taken care of tho it may be free from the dealer since it is a known and recognized problem
