I used Excel since it was handy (ESPNSTI - pieces of paper - BAH! this is the 21st century, you know, the paperless office and all that ) - but the process is the same i.e Five rows - House colour, Nationality, Smokes, Drinks, Pets, and arranged the bits of info as per the clues

3X-30 = 250 + 20, so
(3x90) - 30 = 250 +20, so
270 - 30 = 250 +20, so
240 = 270 huh???

That's not a good riddle, (highlight to see why) there is no solution, because if all bags have to have an odd number of coins and there are 6 bags, the total would always be even, odd+odd=even, so the only way for this to work is to have 1+3+5+7+9 and then put those bags in the last bag
