Need some of you folks to quickly settle something for me. I've had my MR2 for two years now and haven't once given it the full over polish/wax/clay, so I've been reading around a lot of places to find the best way going about it. Problem is there are so many f****ing products around with weird it's impossible to make a choice.

Basically I've come down to two choices: either a Turtle Wax + Turtle Wax Gloss Guard combination, which I have read in places gives very good results. Or T-Cut the car once, then apply a very strong long lasting sealant/last step product.

What do you think? If I go down the T-Cut route, what last step product would you recommend?

Turtle Wax?!? Well its not the best.
Go here to read more about Waxes and etc http://www.autopia.org/
As for me? I like Klasse AIO, Meguiar is also pretty good as they can be found almost anywhere. Also Harley stuff is really good, but i forgot who stuff is it really as they are re branded but tend to give a nice shine.
For my new car all i did was
Clay Bar very lightly (it was a new car, for you apply normal force)
Apply Klasse AIO
Apply Klasse Sealant (And some people apply this in layers, i am too lazy)
Apply Natural Carnauba (actually i got lazy and only applied it too my hood.. need to finish the rest of the car)
And thats about it.
In your case, maybe before AIO you might want to get a stronger polish as the paint might be in bad nick. For that, i have a bottle of Harley stuff that is made to be applied to the whole car (well bike in my case, i have a Black Motorcycle and if i just look at her bad i get swirl marks)

How long do the waxes usually stay on for you guys?

i had meguiars wax, and it stayed on for about a couple of months until i finally felt some particles while running my palm over after a wash

^just a question... it depends what color is your car, is it dark or light? for Dark colors, Poorboy's product suits dark color as well... for a more economical option, I've seen great outcomes from Meguiars NXT Wax... if its a light color car, I personally use Zaino Z2, but apparently Autoglym is pretty Super Resin Polish is really good for light color cars

Mine's Midnight Blue, so if as you say Poorboy works well on that, and considering it's cheap, I'll check it out. Availability might be an issue for me though.

^I don't know anyone that has a midnight blue car (exception is my dad but his car is sent to a detailer every 2 months under a membership program)... but for Black, I have one friend that uses Poor Boy's and another that use Meguiars NXT... I think both gives really good effects, and as someone said, Autopia.org, detailparadise.com.au and sites like that have very good information, even more for dark color cars

Strictly speaking, my mk1 is Dark Blue Pearl (or something similar, basically a navy blue). Just been reading more stuff on some of those sites, and it just get's more confusing with the products they recommend. Plus those products aren't available here in the UK (I think).

Go and get some Swissol or Zymol. It's ?100 for their starter packs but well worth it. I've had the tub of wax for 3 years now and am about an eighth of the way through it!

It really does get your car this shiny.

^Since I had some TurtleWax lying around I decided to put a layer of TurtleWax, but there is a layer of NXT which I put right before it... the car is silk smooth now, the Astra is detailed with Poorboy's SSR, Poorboy's Polish and then Poorboy's Sealant.
