UCL 2011/2012 Champions League & Europa League Thread

It's football. Just because you play the best football and deserve to win it doesn't mean you will win it. Chelsea have been bombarded and completly outplayed in atleast 3 games. But when they got their chance they took it. Barcelona and Bayern wasted theirs.

This has been a very weird season with so many twists. Nothing will surprise me anymore in the world of football.

RMA - Bayern and Athletic - Sporting were both brilliant games. Llorente collapsed on the pitch crying and the whole crowd went crazy at San Mames after the final whistle. Looked like it was going to be extra time but Llorente scored the winning goal on 88th minute. Quite a season for Bielsa and Athletic, UEL final, Copa del Rey final and still a shot at an UCL spot, trailing Malaga by 4 points. They still have to play Real Madrid though.

UEL:

Valencia - Atl?tico Madrid 0-1 (agg 2-5)
Athletic Bilbao - Sporting CP 3-1 (agg 4-3)

Which Athletic won!

2012 UEFA Europa League Final
Wednesday 9th May

Atl Madrid 3-0 Athletic Bilbao

Why?

Bayern had three match balls and wasted them. The defeat is sad but not undeserved in my opinion.

Meanwhile Munich is drowning in self-pity.
Obviously chelsea took their chances on the night but they had unbelievable amounts of luck to actually get to the final, playing crappy defensive football in the process. That's what really annoys me, how they set up their team to not lose in the hope that they'd have a chance in the penalty shootout. I think the europa league was far more interesting than the champions league this year, it had some great teams like schalke, ath bilbao, valencia who all like to play nice football.

I was hoping for Bayern, but I can live with this result as well :) most of all because I have so much respect for Drogba, and I really think he deserved this. He has been fantastic recently.

I did experience a good deal of schadenfreude seeing Terry sidelined for a game of this magnitude.

Well, he did acknowledge that he had become a Chelsea supporter in one of his articles I believe!

Mentioned on the show also. Atleast twice

Barca will probably be alright, but Arsenal won't. Playing with no defence in the UCL doesn't work. I wonder if Arsene will leave, if not I hope he really gets a new defence coach and quickly. Every team that plays against them fancies their chances of scoring, even lower league clubs in domestic cup competitions.

EDIT: I should also add that Bayern were very good and easily deserved the win.

It's going to be tough for Barcelona.. It's absolutely necessary that they get a clean sheet at home, 3 goals is a challenge already, 4+ goals wil be very, very hard.

Poor Liverpool. What an absolutely awesome game, very entertaining :D Liverpool are playing some very attractive football at the moment. A shame they couldn't complete that comeback.
