UCL 2011/2012 Champions League & Europa League Thread

I wouldn't say it was undeserved. Chelsea had a tactic and made it work brilliantly. Yes Barcelona could have scored but you are never going to stop them creating opportunities completely. It reminded me of the two legs in the 2007/8 semi final with Man United.

Barcelona made a mistake by letting them score but Chelsea defended really well, defense and midfield very close to each other with no space between them to make runs into and a 5-man line in the midfield left Messi out of the picture pretty well as he had no space to turn towards the goal. I would've hoped Barcelona to score in the end or at least early at Camp Nou so 10-man defense would't be the name of the game for too long but we'll see.

Bayern - Real Madrid was the more entertaining pairing, good game by Rib?ry, Gomez & co and a couple of bad substitutions by Mourinho. Looking forward to next week.

UEL tonight:

Atl?tico Madrid - Valencia
Sporting CP - Athletic Bilbao

I guess F?pbol Club Qatar is going to easily win in their stadium (it's going to be one of those 2-3 night per year when the Qatar aficionados really support their team), but it would be fair, given how Chelsea was sent home in 2009, if the English team advanced to the final. And I don't care if they do it playing with ten defenses, that's also football.

On the other semifinal, I think Bayern is going to make it to their final, even if Real Madrid scores, they are probably going to concede one or more goals.

Two hits in the woodwork was close but not enough, it was one of those days when there was a little too much rolling the ball and not enough depth in the play.

The best thing that could happen at Camp Nou, from a neutral perspective, would be a quick Barcelona goal. That'd force Chelsea to play some riscy attacking football :)

I'd like you a lot more without all the namecalling.

Europa League

Atl Madrid 4-2 Valencia
Sporting 2-1 Athletic Bilbao

Interesting results, anything could still happen in the 2nd leg.

Yesterday was the worst I've seen Bielsa's Athletic play, tons of bad passes and giving the ball away way too easy. Never really had any control of the game and the only opportunities (one goal, one goalpost) came from Sporting's mistakes. Deserved win for Sporting, could've scored more. Everything's still open if Athletic shape up and get back to their usual form.

Elsewhere it's still pretty much open as well with Atl?tico having the reputation for shitting their pants and Valencia having quite a rollercoaster form. Falcao scored another brilliant goal and is on his way to UEL top scorer second season in a row, currently joint with Huntelaar with 10 goals.

He's just one his one-man quest to convince everybody the FC Barcelona is behind all that's wrong in this world. Lots of energy put into good use!

Not a fan of Chelsea or their fans but nice to see Barca knocked off their perch. :woot:

That was epic game. Playing with 10 men is no easy task but to do it against one of the best teams in the world ? Unbelievable. Well Done Chelsea.

That last goal by Torres was one of the best goals this year.

UEFA Champions League

Barcelona 2-2 Chelsea

(agg 2 - 3)

Unbelieveable, well done Chelsea.
Torres gets the "winner" in the last few minutes, who'd have thought it possible.

:)

They rooted for us in the last Final, so it's only fair...

Amazing, but I must say...it was kinda in the cards. One man down, and Messi missing a penalty. Chelsea just had to win!

That sucked. How did they lose that? Barcelona had every opportunity to close it down.

Well done Chelsea, Inter showed the way two years ago, quite skillfully executed yesterday. But my god what a jackass Terry is. What the hell was that? That was one of the stupidest things I've in a match as important as this. World Cup Final Zidane stupid.

Looking forward to tonights game, if Bayern manages to move on.. Who'd have seend a Chelsea - Bayern final as likely? :p

Also, Guardiola says he will decide about his future in the coming days. Sure hope he stays on. It'd be a shame leaving after this.

Messi who?

Joking aside, apart from Torres scoring I quite enjoyed that match. Nice to see that Barcelona get punished for their lack of efficiency. Fanboys claiming it was undeserved piss me off - you can't expect a team to dominate Barca on Nou Camp, especially with only 10 players on the pitch.

Took the ref 4 minutes to make a technically correct, but questionably stupid call that affected the entire outcome.

How about that. A CL-final I actually look forward to.

YES YES YES!!!! Bastian Schweinsteiger!
