Oh yes, it's back!

Dortmund and the Gunners, interesting. Plus an away trip to Turkey, not so good for either.

Group C looks nice for the teams. No "OMG, it's the BDL, EPL or Spanish clubs."

EDIT: Times shown are UK, so one hour different on the mainland.

Strange. It's just strange. Doesn't feel right :/

What a surprise, Arsenal again...

Well, you should both get through to R16, I think.
(The Gunners have got a bit of early-season-crap-defence syndrome again.)

.. and welome :welcome: to any FG members from Sweden or Bulgaria, supporting UCL debutants Malm? FF and Ludogorets Razgrad.

UEFA Champions League - Group A

Juventus 2-0 Malm? FF
Olympiakos 3-2 Atl Madrid

UEFA Champions League - Group B

Liverpool 2-1 Ludo Razgd
Real Madrid 5-1 FC Basel

UEFA Champions League - Group C

Benfica 0-2 Zenit St P
Monaco 1-0 Bayer Levkn

UEFA Champions League - Group D

Bor Dortmd 2-0 Arsenal
Galatasaray 1-1 Anderlecht

EDIT:

Liverpool's return to the UCL was a crazy game where not much happened for eighty minutes, then Mario scored. This was followed quickly by the Liverpool defence getting caught while asleep to allow an equaliser. The new Razgrad GK then lost his head a bit and gave away a pen, which Gerrard scored a last minute winner. An eventful end to the match!

Dormund could have put four or five past Arsenal, whose defence continued in idiot mode or doing what Wenger told them, you decide.

Basel were better than the scoreline looks, but the Real stars were all shining each of Bale, Renaldo, James and Benezema scored.

A good result for Olympiakos too, maybe Athletico haven't got their play back yet.

Fucking brillant game from Borussia against Arsenal. After only five minutes or so, I was already sure that it would be a comfortable win - and it was. The two goals were both absolutely awesome - even if Immobile can say thank you to the various Arsenal "defenders" that didn't do anything to defend. :D Gro?kreutz' pass to Aubameyang enabling the second goal was also really good - Gro?kreutz is always praised as someone who can play just about every position (including goalkeeper), but he has also the problem that for every position, there's a specialist in the squad who is better on that position. So him being absolutely brillant in the Reus position was awesome to see. :)

Also, fuck Bayern. 90th minute decider again.

A good win for Dortmund and well deserved. You should have scored more on the night, I hope GD doesn't count against Dortmund at the end of the Group stage.

UEFA Champions League - Group E

Bayern Munich 1-0 Man City
Roma 5-1 CSKA Moscow

Ajax 1-1 Paris St G
Barcelona 1-0 Apoel Nic

UEFA Champions League - Group G

Chelsea 1-1 FC Schalke 04
NK Maribor 1-1 Sporting

UEFA Champions League - Group H

Ath Bilbao 0-0 Shakt Donsk
FC Porto 6-0 BATE Bor

Jose will be a bit miffed about getting only a draw, Chelsea have made a very strong start to the new season. CSKA & BATE ship five/six goals in the first game, oh dear!

Makes Groups E and H interesting.

Also, fuck Bayern. 90th minute decider again.

Man C still have much to learn about the UCL and how to ignore reputations.

Bit of a struggle for Barcelona to score against APOEL. They did start with a midfield consisting of Xavi, Sergi Roberto and Sergio Samper, which seemes like quite a risk before the game. Samper did very well, Xavi is showing his age but was solid. Roberto I don't have much of a thing for, I don't think he has what it takes to really become Barca quality. Good squad player to have though, I guess.

I can't wait to see this Barca team in absolutely strongest lineup, Iniesta, Rakitic, Busquets, Neymar, Messi and Suarez.. That's some insane offensive talent.

Totti scored a very good goal as well achieving the record.
(Lampard played in his 103rd UCL game too, according to the TV dude.)

UEFA Champions League - Group G

Schalke 1-1 NK Maribor
Sporting 0-1 Chelsea

UEFA Champions League - Group H

BATE Bor 2-1 Ath Bilbao
Shakt Donsk 2-2 FC Porto

A good result and performance by Chelsea, who could or should have scored 3 or 4 times more. (Costa DID play and wasn't even subbed.)

PSG deserved the win against Barca, who slipped up on a couple of set pieces to let in the goals. Messi & Neymar both scored excellent goals, but not enough on the night to get the three points.

Roma played Man C really well, despite giving up a silly pen early on. A draw was a fair result, but not a good one at home for City. Qualification for the knockout phase looking unsure for Man C now.

FC Porto 2-1 Ath Bilbao

After being two goals ahead in an EMPTY CS KA stadium, Man C lost concentration and pissed away two points. They probably are learning from this UCL experience, but it is taking time.

Well, Bayern Munich looked pretty awesome and shipping seven goals at home cannot be good for Rome morale. THis result may also give Man C some hope as their own didn't.

Chelsea looked good too, probably not up to the best level yet, but better than last year for sure.

Liverpool could still qualify with Real, but so could everyone else. The UCL is a tough league to re-learn and a long project.

An away win for Arsenal is good, but no clean sheet as usual.

Dortmund get the away game at Galatasaray completed with a four to zero win, very good performance. (Hope all the Dortmund fans get home safe tonight.)

Arsenal's #3 goalkeeper in his 28 appearances on loan had let in 28 goals in 18 games and only had two clean sheets!

EDIT:
Group A
Very nice free kick from Pirlo and a lucky og winner gave Juve the chance to still qualify.
But so could everone else with Atletico. (Sort of)

When the Liverpool team was announced, there was much moaning & bithcing from some fans about not fielding the strongest side possible. Coach Rodgers was however, proved right, as Liverpool played very well. They still lost, but performed well and got a better result than when loosing at home. Real are Group winners, of course.

Group C
Bayer Leverkusen are the group winners and Monaco should also qualify, but so could the others.

Group D
Dortmund have won the group rather easily, despite thier poor DBL run so far.
Arsenal have crap defence and chucked away a three goal lead to Anderlect. Alexis Sanchez was excellent again. They should go through and still get second place, then get knocked out in R16 by a top team.

Two sent off for Man City.

Borussia Dortmund hasn't won the group yet; Arsenal is just five points behind, with two matches to go.

Speaking of Dortmund, it's a bloody disgrace to let so many "fans" armed with serious pyro into the stadium and police using a "deescalation" strategy (basically let the hools carry on in order not to have more volence). Why bother at all with controls upon entry?
But as these people got in there as Galatasaray supporters, and it's not the first time they misbehave, I hope UEFA punishes that club severely. Police investigate on allegations up to attempted manslaughter...

Guardian article here.

Qualifiers from the Group stage for A to D
Atl?tico Madrid and Juventus, Real and Basel, Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal.

Basel had another good Group stage this year and Real got maximum points, whcih takes some doing. Liverpool were poor, after last year's goal fest with Suarez & Sturridge in the EPL. A pity for Gerrard that this UCL was not so good as it may be his last, but he did score a nice goal against Basel.
