Video coding how-to/software used

I'm trying to re-encode some videos I have but I don't reach the quality/size level you achieve with TopGear episodes.

Is it possible to know what software/codec combination you're using to compress the episodes ?

The stuff in the FG torrents isn't encoded by anyone on FG.


That being said, the HD episodes are encoded using x264.

I always used VirtualDub to recode almost everything... The only thing that it doesn't like much is WMVs and perhaps new formats such as mp4 and flv. Other than that, AVIs are easy peasy.
