*Ive made this warning in a number of forums:

Well... what can I say... I hate Microsoft. About a month or two after Microsoft released their Service Pack 2 for XP, I downloaded it because I have been having so many problems with Internet Explorer and the new security features should have solved most of the issues. Well, nothing happened except one thing:

MY COMPUTER CRASHED!

The guy that came over to fix the whole thing said that this has happened a lot lately. He said that he had to uninstall and reinstall the operating which required three days of copying all my documents and music (including video). Bottom line, I just got my computer back and have to reinstall pretty much everything from Foxfire, to mIRC, to Word. The frustration level is so high right now. Hopefully, I can protect anyone from making this mistake. DO NOT INSTALL XP SP2! It is full of faults which Microsoft has not answered and it is NOT effective anyway.

Thankfully, I at least have my computer but it is not worth the hastle. DONT DO IT!

err... already did? ive had it for a while and its been fine so far. just a bit of annoying intrusions by the IE "security" features but its been fine so far

you sure you didnt have a virus that messed up your comp?

Yeah, there's no reason, not to install SP2.
If you don't update your comp, you're vunerable to viruses and the like...
I installed SP2 as soon as it was avaivable for Pro users...werks fine, nothing wrong. :)
That was probably an isolated incident.

SP2 is fine with my computer, except i dont like the security bay. its keeps popping up tellin me to put my firewall back on.

There have been huge problems with SP2, but it works fine for the majority of users.

I was a tech-support agent for notebook computers this summer (I worked for one of the biggest computer companies, I can't really say who though) and SP2 was literally frying their notebooks. On certain models of notebook, when a person would install SP2 it would destroy the notebook's CMOS and BIOS. For some people the install would fail before completing, the computer would try to reboot itself, then it would die. For others, they'd install it successfully, reboot their computer, and then have it die. :? I still don't know how an operating system could do damage to a computer's physical hardware, but all of the notebooks had to be sent in for a motherboard replacement. It was just a summer job though and I went back to school before the problem was explained, but it was pretty bizzare.

I installed it on my own computer though, and I've had no problems at all.

@jasonchiu

You can disable the Security Center, if you another firewall, ZoneAlarm, Tiny Personal Firewall, whatever
Security Center is a service so it can in essence be disabled like some others...
Do NOT use "msconfig" to disable services, type "services.msc" in the Run box instead!
So you have the "Services" window open...look for the name "Security Center", easy enough. Double click it, "Stop" the service, on the "Start Type" choose "Disable", click "OK", and close the window. :)

Other services that can be safely stopped and disabled can be found here:
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
The site is very useful and w/ the service that can be disabled can save you memory and stuff so, check it out

No problems for me, but it did switch of Norton, and I got microsoft spamming me with popups "please make sure your virusscanner is up to date and running"

I haven't downloaded it yet. I'm on 56k! It takes the whole night. I'd rather download TG episodes which takes 3 nights.

i installed it and things work fine with me.

i have nortons and and update all my virus things etc etc. if it would have crashed i think it would have done it by now so i can be a bit safe in saying it will continue to work fine...i hope. :?

It won't install on my comp, so I don't have that problem. tbh, Automatic Updates don't even work either. It sucks! :(

Ditto. I dont think there is any Microsoft program worth having except maybe Windows Media Player. Other than that, I would love to get rid of Windows as fast as possible, but I have used Mac and I dont like that system. Just doesnt work for me.

SP2 working fine. But I also got WMP 10 recently and that was complete crap. I only used it once before going back to 9, but it looked like it even had Messenger in it. What the hell? I want a media player to play media files, period. I hate this current trend of software that has way too many functions that you'll never use, or that does stuff for which you already have a ton of other programs. They really need to make their crap a lot lighter. I bet that's what causing all those bugs anyway.

I've been using since a few weeks before it was released (the network admin install). Works fine here. But then again, I did do it on a nearly fresh install of Windows XP with SP1.

i've installed it on 5 different desktops, and 3 different laptops...systems ranging from Pentium II 866's to AMD64's 3200+ to Intel P4's...none of them have a problem...

i got so tired of using 2 different cd's to install WinXP+SP2, i just streamlined the SP2 into the XP cd so now i just install windows and SP2 is already integrated...

google on how to streamline sp2 to the cd...it's pretty easy, takes like 3 minutes.

In response to Porsche911's post - I've had no problems with SP2 and I run it because of the bug fixes and security patches.
