just wondering guys, if someone cuts u off (or does something stupid) what is your reaction?

im a pretty calm driver, but just now driving back from uni, a mazda 6 suddenly cut into my lane while i was in its blindspot,

anyway, to avoid a collision, i had to slam the breaks causing a lot of smoke and i honked at him, which was the 1st time i've ever used the horn in my 1.5 years of driving. soon i caught up and was alongside of him at the next set of traffic lights.

the guy looked about my age (19), and i was ready to have a go at him, but he acknowledged that he was at fault and so i let it go.

im just wondering what would u have done

I try to be in someone's blind spot as short as possible.
Of course if it's busy, that's not always easy.

Option 1, there's just too many hair-triggered people out there, especially in the cities. If you go with option 2 too often, you just might regret it, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sure, I get irritated sometimes at other dirvers, but I try to keep it to myself. And besides it's always cool to be couteous. If everyone drove defensively and in an anal manner (and if all people responded accordingly), the roads would be dreadful.

To me, there's no sense in beating a guy down (or even yelling at him, etc.) just becasue he did something stupid. Maybe it was a genuine mistake.

option 1, if I honk it'll be to make them realize what they did...

I might just swerve around so he doesn't cut me, floor it and pass him though. While giving him a "you fucking moron" look.

but I'm not agressive, that stuff happens, even I do sometimes, miscalculations or hurryness is understandable, as long as it doesn't happen too often

If someone jumps in front of me from a side street friom a short distance OR switches lanes without using blinkers or even looking before doing so, forcing me to slow down or get on the brakes, hard, I normally let them know what they've done by slowing down at the last possible moment and tailgaiting for a few seconds. The reaction I normally get is of someone not happy but I keep my cool and pass at the first chance afterwards and go on my way. Not thinking about the whole thing twice. Passing is especially easy now with power that I have available under the pedal since switching rides. The point is to let them know they did bad by jumping in front of someone and then carry one as if nothing had happened.

Funny story though...

I once got cut off on the highway outside of Montreal (I hate that place, seems like everyone living there thinks they live in the center of the universe and are better than anybody else for it) but instead of loosing my cool after honking and being given the finger, I waited for a chance to quickly pull alongside Mr.Doofuss and looked at him through the passenger side window and, when he looked at me, very clearly articulated (trust me, I look intimidating when I'm pissed):"You never know who you're dealing with. Go AWAY !"
He looked surprised but very unhappy and didn't do nothing but pull away while I returned to my cruising speed.

It happens pretty often on a bike, but there's not much you can really do.
 I once got on a biker's nerve and he pulled alongside and banged on my driver's side mirror pretty hard. I thought he had broken the casing. :? Use your imagination ...

It is so dangerous riding a bike, most people don't pay attention to them.

IMHO, you should always check your rear view mirror, side mirror and blind spot before changing lanes.
Not doing so because you're in a hurry will eventually catch up with you.

Im from a smaller city in Australia, so generally most people on the road are more relaxed then places like sydney.
Generally if I get cut off, ill just ignore it. People all make mistakes and as long as nothing bad happend, you just move on with it, most of all im damm sure ill do somthing simular one time or another

I know some people that carry a few heavy pieces of metal (nuts, bolts, change) - and should someone cut them off they pass and let them "slip out", which can cause serious damage to a car.

I wouldn't do that though.

Can't choose anything. If someone does something to have me get on my brakes hard, then I blind them with my high beams so that they know they did something wrong. Twice last week cars pulled out of side streets and not even checking for traffic. Doesn't help that my shift last week ended at midnights, just like this week.

Other than flashing, I turn up my music as well since it calms me way down.

Not everybody, is the perfect driver, so it will happen. Just honk the horn if it gets dangerous. I try to avoid crowded areas around where I live by taking side streets and lesser used roadways. I know my town and all the shortcuts, so it helps.

I get over it, unless it's just BLATANT stupidity/malice.

I someone's made a genuine mistake, then I'm fine, shit happens... If they've done it on purpose (happens alot in Melbourne), maybe just a quick honk and a look but that's it.

It depends, I don't really lose my cool though. Cutting off I can handle, my peeves are more people who throw stuff out from their car or people who run reds/stops signs and/or just leap into the main road (from a side street or whatever)....

oh, and people who drive side-by-side with another car, thus not allowing anybody to pass...

If the person just flat out made a mistake, no big deal, no accident no problem. They'll probably realise after moving in there was someone there.

If someone does something just out of stupidity (not talking just about cutting in here), i'll just make sure we make eye contact with an "idiot" look, makes them realise its people they're fucking with, not just bits of metal.

I might not legally drive yet but I still know how annoying getting "cut off" is. If it were to happen to me, I would probly just wave ma' hands like an Italian would :p Nothing more though...some people get so fired up tho :wall:

You should get cardboard plates with writings on them, if they cut you off show the "U R Banned!!!111!!!" plate, that'll keep him shut.

option 1.

You can't teach an asshole a lesson, he will not understand, and trying to do so in public road, is just being an asshole yourself.

And if it was just a mistake, he/she probably noticed it by him(her)self.

Option1.

My friend was an agressiv guy (option 2 type), than someone almost shot him  So now he is calm
