looking for a new firewall

was using sygate personal but it won't work anymore

for a temp firewall i am using zone alarm pro

what do think is the best?

I'm using my router as a hardware firewall and XP SP 2 Firewall. Seems to work with no problems.

Router + Zone Alarm 4.5 for program control.

why does everyone use zone alarm i have never heard of it untill i saw it on download.com and just got it because it was there and free

I use the Pro version *cough* and 'cuase it's a good firewall .:)

heh, iptables is mine, and its on the router level (since i built me a nice linux router). As for personal windows machine firewalls, in the past I used blackice, which was good, but i have been hearing recently that XP SP2's firewall is decent. I personally have never enabled the windows firewall, because my router protects me.

SP2's is decent, but IIRC, it has crap program protection which is what I really needed. I mean I already have a router for incoming stuff.

The SP2 firewall is not very good at all, I mean it doesn't even monitor outgoing traffic! Zone Alarm Pro is an awesome firewall, definately one of the best, but is just beaten by F-Secure's. I use Norton myself, because it came free with my computer, it's not great, but it'll do.

I use Norton Internet Security 2005, but i hate it and need 2 find a better one 8)

i use the Windows XP SP1 firewall ATM (on my temp. "router-pc") and i use Kasperksy Antivirus Personal. From time to time i run Microsoft Anti-Spyware, and i use Mozilla FireFox for browsing.
so why would anybody want a firewall that handles outbound traffic as well?

to stop spyware and adware that may have been inadvertantly put o ur computer, not to mention viruses that u might have inadvertantly got also. It just doubles protection!

against viruses i use Firefox and Kaspersky, and the incoming connections firewall and against spyware i use Firefox and that MS beta antispyware thing.

so im safe, and i dont like being bugged when you try to play a game online... (yeah i know you only get that the first time but it still buggs me).
