tacos, fajitas, tortillas etc. (for some reason I used to hate Mexican food when I was a kid)

can't stand those when I was a kid, still hate it now.

I'm not surprised that a lot of people here have said sushi. When I first ate it it was a revelation.

And the time I accidentally tried dog at a Korean restaurant in China meant that I'm less freaked out about eating Fido.

You know, it might sound weird but I would actually like to try dog sometime...Also I have a funny story kind of similar to eating dog. A friend of mine's family raised pigs, well when we were in 6th grade they gave her a pig to raise for the state fair; she named it, fed it, and generally just looked after the pig well the pig took top honors in the kid raised category in the morning and I was invited over that night to eat "Pinky"....weird.

edit: I also realized I now have to follow BlaRo around and post after him.

Thinks I first did not dare trying as a kid, yet loving it today contain:

- Pizza
- Greek food
- Raw onions
- Schnitzel
- Steak
- Kartoffelpuffer (German hash browns)
- Chinese food

As a child, I almost only ate minced meat in any variation. I never had any problems with most vegetables, though.

The breakthrough came, when I first tried Yugoslavian and Greek food. That's what woke my adventurous culinary side and I haven't backed up from trying anything since then :)

However, I still have a strong dislike for flabby fat on any kind of meat, biting on it makes me retch.

I also will probably never like liver, although I have eaten it, when I was forced to. Also I despise biting on caraway seed, have absolutely no love for capers and do not fancy any sour stuff much.

Only recently I discovered a fondness for sprouts, the only vegetable I hadn't liked before.

I also tried some more "exotic" sorts of meat (at least for my region) like reindeer, kangaroo and ostrich. I would love to try crocodile or snake one day but I would never touch anything with insects or grubs.

Hey, me too!

Also:

Eggs. As a kid, I used to think the yolk was an undeveloped chicken embryo and would gag if I saw it being eaten. I don't exactly love eggs now, but having been enlightened on the birds and the bees, I'll eat them occasionally.

Sour cream. Again, as a kid, I assumed sour cream came from sick cows and if I ate it I'd catch whatever made them sick.

Pasta - I thought it was slimy, Can't get enough of it now!
Tomatoes - Still can't eat them raw, but lovely on pizzas.

And to think my parents used to take me on holiday to Italy as a kid... :D

I used to dislike anything with tomatoes in it. Now, I can eat them as long as they're prepared, as in sauce or soup. I still have a gag reflex to eating them straight, it must be to do with the smell and and juice running everywhere.

yeah same here, I loathe raw tomatoes. But once there prepared in like a pizza or a pasta sauce I can't get enough.

I've got the same story with regards to cheese. As for the subject, I'd have to say fish eggs.

Recently, cherries and peaches. Never tried either of them and they didn't seem to look good at first sight (especially thanks to cherry-flavored medicine).

Had some bing cherries the other day and holy crap they're sweet. Same with peaches. It's awesome.

If you want really sweet peaches go somewhere you can pick them yourself. Peaches truly are a fruit that should be allowed to ripen on the tree, because they draw most of their sweetness from the tree about the week right before they are ripe, commercial growers pick then before that.

Many things but they are hard to remember. The ones I can think of the top of my head that I didnt eat before, lingon and mustard. And for reasons I cannot explain, I wanted my eggs hard boiled and not half-boiled the way it's supposed to be. I think I was afraid to burn my tongue as I kid and hard boiled eggs were safer.

Edit: Also in general seafood, I never had any bad experiences or anything when I was younger, I just never had a taste for anything that came from the sea/ocean except for fishsticks hahaha
