What is a good Messenger?

Always used MSN Messenger but got annoyed by the ads and the unnecesary stuff.

Tried Yahoo! messenger and it sucked, can't import my hotmail list.
Tried Trillian, it's small but I don't get it, don't know how to change my name, and the "busy/lunch/away" can't be changed easily.
Tried AOL too, but can't import my list and not gonna bother putting all in again..

Anyone knows a good one?

I dont like IM's. Prefer IRC. and even then just use Windows Messenger (in XP) , no ads for me


I hear only good stuff about Trillian. Try GAIM.

Why's GAIM better than AIM?

I use trillian now (and I like that), and before that I only used ICQ (why doesn't everyone just use that), but I'm not a heavy IM user (don't have any friends ).

I use trillian too. I just upgraded to the newest version (3), and the wikipedia integration is very handy.

Recently went back to ICQ for a while and got invited to around 15 Pr0n sites within the first day - great stuff - lol

Trillian Pro 3 for IMs, mIRC for IRC is what I use.

Using GAIM now, and I like it, especially the "alias" change all names to normal names.
