So after seeing the new DieselStation forums and all the cool features it has (ex: tacking any new posts you make onto your previous one if no one has replied since your last post), I'm starting to envy it.

And the more I think about it, the more I dislike phpBB.

However, there's only really 5 things holding me back:

  • Invision costs an arm and a leg
  • People are used to this forum
  • We have a cool theme already
  • Invision costs an arm and a leg
  • Lastly, Invision costs an arm and a leg
Thoughts?
 
Since you are the one paying for all of this and I like thsi place the way it is, why don't you leave it the way it is ?

But if you are willing to sacrifice an arm and a leg, and if it's possible to have a similar theme there, then it's up to you. :)
 
As I'm not actually a member of DieselStation, I don't know what I'm missing.

And quite frankly I think the forum as it is, is great. It works, does what we need it to (as far as I'm concerned) and doesn't (as far as I know) require any additional outlay...

Incidentally, is phpBB free or did that cost you something too?

phpBB is free and I'd never pay personally for Invision. I was just bringing the subject up for feedback. :)

I like the forum as it is, too. But if you hate the current system so much, look for an alternative free forum system. There must be life outside phpBB :)
 
I really can't tell the difference (but god I hate those colors they're using). Then again, I just looked at it for five minutes and got back to this. But, if you really want it, we could name my magazine "Final Gear" and use the proceeds from that to help the boards...after all, Final Gear is in the lead...Ignition is in second on the pole...

I like it the way it is .... no reason to change unless you're really annoyed with phpBB.
 
DO IT.

Get a cracked version I don't mind, but do it for fucks sake... this dilemma lasted for way too long already.

Plus a new theme isn't that hard to make, well not with IPB anyways!

If you do change, does it mean you have to advertise that it's powered by Invision - like on DieselStation? :thumbsdown:
Also, I went there earlier, it was blue/grey with an Invision banner up top. I went there just now and it's green/black with no Invision banner, but 'Powered by Invision Power Board' in the title... Does it always change colour?
 
they're just slowly remaking their theme... the invision text and logo can all go..

phpBB does the same too until you change it.

I thought i was banned, but now i am able to view their forums. :|
But yea, their set-up is awesome. switch if possible
