I recently sold my 2001 VW Jetta which i liked, and got $10,000 for it! Now im looking for a new car that is as good or better. I'm leaning towards a Porsche 944 Turbo, but don't know about any other options i have.

You have to consider also that buying an older, imported sports car may cost a bit to maintain and repair.

How about a mid 90's BMW M3?

You can find a hell of a lot for that price. Anything from a barely breathed on first-gen Miata (those are the cool ones, go spec racing) to a few beat up 300ZXs :)D). Are you going for German, Japanese, or American cars? Mid-90's Audi S4 with the turbo 5-cylinder and quattro? Merc coupe? Camaro SS? You get the idea.

Don't make an impulse buy. Make sure you do your research and know exactly what you want. Go test drive all your options to see if you actually like the car. Otherwise, you'll end up selling it soon after.

For $10k, I would personally save a couple thousand dollars more and find myself a prestine E30 M3 with the 2.5 litre conversion already done. Screw the E36. The E30 was the first and last "real" M3.

too old? nah, just aging gracefully

For $10,000 i would probably get a pristine e30 and modify it to my tastes (suprise suprise) or perhaps a Miata, or maybe a Corrado. But definately not an e36, i immensely dislike those m3 or not.

Toyota MR2. fbc will pout and disagree, but the finest version of that car, the 2nd gen SW20, can be had for that price. You can get either a turbo or non-turbo in excellent condition for less than $10k, and use the leftover money for modifications etc.

I'm leaning more towards getting a German made car.... because i find that the Japs make good cars, but a lot of them are basically a copy of a German car made for less. I wish i had the kind of money my neighbor has hes getting a new Porsche 911 C4S and hes on the waiting list for a 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo!! I might just trade my $10K for his new Porsche! You never know! :bangin:

Id fancy a 240SX or an older Miata (MX5). :)
dont even bother with a 240. the only thing really good about them is price and 10k isnt cheap. id look for a rx7, 300zx tt, or a wrx(wagon  ). i wouldnt think about too old of a car bc youll have to pay more for repairs. but if you want to stick with german, get a m3.

I think German cars are typically a bit too over-engineered and are overstuffed with too much things you don't need. But the E30 M3 gets it just right. It has the right amount of amenities with nothing going overboard.

And stay away from the 240SX. You need to modify that car to make it as good as people claim it to be.

E36 M's with good milages (talking about 1998 1999 models) are like at least 15000 (In my area)...
you wouldnt want an M with high milage... then you dont know what the maintainance will be... unless you can do your own work of course...

Arent we forgetting the teaching of Clakrson: if your going to buy a used coupe, buy japanese.

Agreed, their made for the long haul.

/not biased
//100% German Fan.

If you're just buying a car to get you places reliably and comfortably, why not a Honda Civic. $10000 used sports car seems risky to me, but used normal car at that price should be great.

I think the 944 would be a good buy if you can find a well maintained excampel at that price. But i would go for a MX-5 or Miata as you call it. Reliable, cheap to run and above all fun even at legal speeds.
