Following a lot of comments about Jeremy's clothes - from Trinny and Susanna when they were on his show to snarky comments here - I thought we should settle this issue once and for all and find out...what JC is wearing.

I've gone through all of the episodes of season 6 and taken screen shots showing his full ensemble as well as close-ups of his jacket and shirt combos. I've described the clothes he's wearing, given you my two pence and - what the hell - even threw in a verdict out of 5 Stigs.

So, get a bag of chips and pull up an easy chair, 'cause this isn't gonna be a short post!

Season 6 Episode 1

JCS06E01a.jpg
JCS06E01b.jpg

Jacket: Tan
Shirt: White with large blue dots
Trousers: Medium blue jeans
Shoes: Brown suede Chelsea boots
My comment: Not a bad ensemble, although that tan jacket isn't great. I don't know about the shirt either.
Verdict:
:stig: :stig: :stig:

Season 6 Episode 2

JCS06E02a.jpg
JCS06E02b.jpg

Jacket: Black (or indigo)
Shirt: White with large pink dots, the companion shirt to the one he wore last episode
Trousers: Medium blue jeans, but with a cooler wash
Shoes: Black leather Chelsea boots
My comment: A pretty good combination, better jacket and jeans than last week. The jury's still out on the shirt though.
Verdict:
:stig: :stig: :stig: :stig:

Season 6 Episode 3

JCS06E03a.jpg
JCS06E03b.jpg

Jacket: Dark brown (possibly corduroy)
Shirt: Plain white dress shirt
Trousers: Dark blue jeans
Shoes: Black leather Chelsea boots
My comment: A very safe - and very typical - JC ensemble. There's no faulting the choice of jacket, shirt or jeans...except that it's a bit boring.
Verdict:
:stig: :stig: :stig: :stig:

Season 6 Episode 4

JCS06E04a.jpg
JCS06E04b.jpg

Jacket: Tan (same as S06E01)
Shirt: White with unfortunate flowery speckles
Trousers: Dark blue jeans
Shoes: Brown suede Chelsea boots
My comment: Again with that awful tan jacket - it makes him look fat - and a rather gay shirt. Given it's summer, I think we'll let him get away with it, but just barely.
Verdict:
:stig: :stig: :stig:

Season 6 Episode 5

JCS06E05a.jpg
JCS06E05b.jpg

Jacket: None (going casual I guess)
Shirt: Black 'clubbing' shirt
Trousers: Dark blue jeans
Shoes: Light tan Tods
My comment: Except for the shoes, this really is the outfit of an East German synth fan. All that's missing is the earring and the black leather trainers. Jeremy is more at home in jacket and jeans combinations.
Verdict:
:stig: :stig:

Season 6 Episode 6

JCS06E06a.jpg
JCS06E06b.jpg

Jacket: Dark brown (same as S06E03)
Shirt: Plain white dress shirt (same as S06E03)
Trousers: Dark blue jeans (same as S06E03)
Shoes: Black leather Chelsea boots (same as S06E03)
My comment: Whoa - did they film the studio bits of this episode back-to-back with episode 3 and then air them in a different order? Jeremy's wearing the same exact thing. Like last time, this is a good standard combo but I'll have to deduct a Stig for unoriginality!
Verdict:
:stig: :stig: :stig:

Season 6 Episode 7

JCS06E07a.jpg
JCS06E07b.jpg

Jacket: None
Shirt: Black 'clubbing' shirt (same as S06E05)
Trousers: Dark blue jeans (same as S06E05)
Shoes: Light tan Tods (same as S06E05)
My comment: Again with the repeat outfits! It certainly isn't any better the second time around, Jeremy, that's another Stig I'm going to have to deduct from you.
Verdict:
:stig:

Season 6 Episode 8

JCS06E08a.jpg
JCS06E08b.jpg

Jacket: Black
Shirt: White with large blue dots (same as S06E01)
Trousers: Dark blue jeans
Shoes: Light tan Tods (same as S06E05)
My comment: OK, so JC's recycling his wardrobe - that's all right. He's not a clotheshorse and at least he is mixing it up a bit. That shirt is still rather dubious and those light tan Tods with the very dark jacket is a bit off. But, all in all, it's a straight forward JC outfit.
Verdict:
:stig: :stig: :stig:

Season 6 Episode 9

JCS06E09a.jpg
JCS06E09b.jpg

Jacket: Tan (same as S06E01)
Shirt: Black 'clubbing' shirt (same as S06E07)
Trousers: Dark blue jeans (same as S06E07)
Shoes: Light tan Tods (same as S06E07)
My comment: This is basically the East German synther outfit with an ill-fitting tan jacket thrown on top. Eugh!
Verdict:
:stig:

Season 6 Episode 10

JCS06E10a.jpg
JCS06E10b.jpg

Jacket: Heather blue (possibly linen)
Shirt: White with large blue dots (same as S06E08)
Trousers: Dark blue jeans (same as S06E07)
Shoes: Light tan Tods (same as S06E07)
My comment: A new jacket! Yeay! The big spotted shirt makes its third appearance and the old stand-bys - the navy jeans and light Tods - support the ensemble. Not bad.
Verdict:
:stig: :stig: :stig: :stig:

Season 6 Episode 11

JCS06E11a.jpg
JCS06E11b.jpg

Jacket: Dark brown (same as S06E06)
Shirt: White (same as S06E08)
Trousers: Dark blue jeans
Shoes: Light tan Tods (same as S06E10)
My comment: For the season finale, Jeremy went with a combination of his favorite items and the result isn't half bad.
Verdict:
:stig: :stig: :stig: :stig:

So let's have your feedback! Do you have a favorite Jeremy outfit? Having gone through this, I realize that not only have I lost two hours of my life that I'll never get back but also that his clothes have been sub-par this season. Whatever happened to the navy club blazers with light blue dress shirts that he wore for much of Season 5? Go back to Rememberance Sunday 2004 - he was looking a lot snappier.

If I have the time and inclination, I may go back and do all the previous 5 seasons. Don't say you weren't warned...

I'll grant you that the differences are subtle, but they're there...

i think that blue jacket he wore in 6x10 is awful. Also, what's wrong with the black "clubbing" shirt?

Wow a thread about what the host is wearing. Now we really are a "fan-site!" Interesting thread really, I think JC's tan outfits are awful and do not suit him. He tends to look better without a jacket but then again, who am I to judge what a 50-something year old, arthritic, bald fatman wears!

Nothing wrong with the clubbing shirt, it just doesn't fit "a 50-something year old, arthritic, bald fatman" to use SL65AMG's expression. It's something Richard Hammond may wear.

Quite an effort you put in there... But I don't really cares what he wears...

I found Ep 10 to be the best looking...

Considering Jeremy's age, I think what he wears is fine. He couldn't really wear the more trendy things Richard does.

James dresses like Dr. Who (Jon Pertwee)

Ooooh...you're gonna have The Defender of the May after you now!

hahahahahahahah roflmao!!! oh that's golden, excellent thread :)

To be honest, I almost suspect Jeremy of doing this on purpose, even though the show probably has stylists employed. He's got a bad rep to keep up after all.. it's a bit like a running joke.

I'm not a trendsetter at all when it comes to clothing.. s06e03 is his safest outfit, but yeah, like Top Gear Girl said, he's not the youngest around anymore, so he'd just look like a tart if he would dress like Hammond.
And suits would be a step up.. there's plenty of casual suits, but come on, he'd look overdressed coming out of an FQ400 or whatever they're called nowadays..

edit: and I agree, he needs to ditch that tan jacket asap! For got sakes, he's probably much better of with a nice dark blue pinstripe or something like that.

In my opinion, James May is the best dressed Top Gear presenter, he always looks OK. ;)

Richard Hammond in otherhand, is by far the worst dressed; Casual Suit with Trainers?! WTF is that?!

As for Jeremy, I think his best combination was in...episode 3.

However, I think he should drop those Ugly Tan Todds and Tight Jeans.

I quite like the tan jacket actually.

Damn right, for hotlinking an image! Kill my :censored: bandwidth, why don't you. Top Gear Girl, if you really want to post any of my photos, just ask me so that I can transfer it to a image hosting service rather than causing traffic to the actual website.

Interesting that I've seen that particular photo mentioned elsewhere, with similar comments recently *strokes chin*.

Anyway, I don't give 2 hoots what they're wearing. It's a car show not a fashion show, and we should all be thankful that each week they choose not to present in their birthday suits!!!

Edit: Is laughing a lot at Jarborra's new avatar !!!

I wasn't to know you have bandwidth problems. Most webmasters love as much traffic as they can get. Still I have now linked it to another place, as you gave me in your PM :) You could have just PM'ed me and kept it between us.

I've been to Hammond Heaven and (like you) read the thing someone posted about James looking like Dr. Who, and shamelessly nicked it and posted it on here. Whats wrong with that?

Of course I want traffic to my site, but the sort of traffic I want is actual visits, not hotlinking a photo to appear on another site/forum which is detrimental to j-m.co.uk. Anyway, by posting on this thread others can see that I'm not a happy bunny when it comes to hotlinking. I only messaged you to give you a new URL. I'm not against my photos being posted elsewhere as long as people save the images and load them to their own service, or ask me if I could host the images myself on one of my picture hosting accounts.

Off topic: Nice laypout on the James May website though, but please do something about the Interview...its whie background with grey text...its hard on the eyes

OT: What browser are you using? I've checked in Netscape, Firefox and IE, and they're all showing a black background with grey type on my PC. :(
