In light of the Top Gear episode, Ive been wondering about the same thing. I only wish I could drive 'em.

Personally, (and of course, I say this ONLY from having read reviews and such) the Aston might be disappointing in the same sense the Mazda RX-8 is disappointing: original looks, fantastic chassis but it gets blown away on the track and on the street by less expensive cars, ie: WRXs, Acura RSX, EVOs, etc- all cars that make less fuss about their looks.

The Bimmer's engine is wicked and sounds incredible and I would love to say I have 500 hp under the hood. Just to say it! I dont think I could ever use all that power in real life though. Theres not even a track around here (Montreal) where I could use it on except for the GP circuit, which is closed to the public anyways.

But as a daily "compromise" for s sports coup?, id pick the Porsche. THough there are alot around here these days. It's like it has become the average rich man's BMW....

Since recently, I really appreciate the Porsche's balance. Its also great value!

SL65,

have you driven one lately? or maybe a previous gen? Could you specify about this balance?

I know what they mean about the engine in the back and acting as a huge pendulum swining about and the unstabilty when entering corners.

All I have to test is Gran Turismo 4's most recent Ruf and I have to say, it is not all that easy keeping the whole car in check.

AM V8 - for it's looks and that sound, oh my that sound... (I know the 911 is a better car, but I don't care :p)

911 S hands down.
A few reasons, one, the M6 is just an M5 with 2 doors. Simple as that, not its a bad drive and all it just the way it feels. The car was made about its look so people who wanted a 2 door car with space like a 5 series have it now. Thats it, its like the CL is a 2 door version of the S Class.

The AM V8, because everyone who has driven the car (and i am not one of them), the car has been limited it. They could have done more with the car, but they did not becasue it will hurt the AM DB9. It looks nice, it has class but as a pure drivers car its not there. While said that, if i had that type of money right now that is the car i would own. I like owing cars others dont have, the cars that make people stop and go "wow". When i had my Jaguar, it might have been a peice of junk, people took notice. My S500 cant do that.

The 911 because it was built with no limits. There was no "Dont make it too fast, it might be more powerfull then xxx" because there was no other car for them to worry about. It was built to get the best times and that is it. That and i think a 911 will not fall apart as an AM would.

lol no I havn't driven one yet but judging a car by its charecteristics in GT4 IS NOT what you should be doing.

I'm basing my comments on the reviews on this car. The way people say that Porsches handle so differently than any other car. And after 40-years, they are only making slight tweaks to its chassis.

But I wanna here what others have to say.

M6 for me, it's a beautiful car, and I know this is going to get flamed, but I think it's the best looking of the 3. That V10 engine is reasone number 2, and while it may not be as sharp as the 911, I like it because it's like a Viper, big, boofy, V10, just that it A: Handles and B: Looks Good. There are few better things than German Muscle cars.

911 Please!
Best looks, best handling and performance on track.
The only positive thing about the aston is noise. M6... simply doesn't do it for me at all.

M6 no doubt, in silver.

911 is just to conservative for me.
Love the looks of the M6, and it will still look relatively new in 5 years time. Masterpiece of an engine. Granted, it will not handle as good as the 911, brake down alot more often, and if you where to beat it around a track the brakes would fade, transmission, diff. and so on would burn, but i wouldn't care. Not gonna use it for that anyway. Could always wait for the CSL version if that was high on the list.
Anyway it's kind of a bagain with performance like the Ferrari 575 M for half the price.

there will be a CSL version of the M6? :woot:

I've never driven a car like those, so of course I don't know what I 'm saying, but I'd choose the 911 just because I like them so much. Don't know why. I saw them at the European Motor Show in Brussels (yes we like to call everything European, that makes us feel big), and it struck me how well designed they are and that they are superbly built.

M6 couse im a dork and i like gadgets

The heart says Aston, the mind says Porsche.

I prefer the looks of the Aston, but then, the Porsche might be the better overall package - being far away from having tested them I've to judge on looks and specs on paper, in the I'd probably end up with the Aston because it's the more exclusive car that lacks some of the perfection of the Porsche. (Perfect car = boring!)

Aston, because I've driven both it and the Porsche....I liked it more and I've ordered one!

Tough decision...
I?m not too fond of Porsches, so I?ll have to choose between the V8 and the M6...
BUT in the end I would buy the M6 because as Astons goes, it must be a DB9 or a Vanquish, the V8 Vantage seems a little watered down...

there will be a CSL version of the M6?

From what i have heard it should be out sometime this year, having 0,5 l bigger displacement, lightened, stiffened up, all the usual CSL stuff. This thing will without a doubt make an awesome sound

For me it could only be the aston! Firstly the vantage is the most eagerly awaited car of the year! Seconedly its a beautiful car its so much better looking than the m6 and it kills the ugly 911. furter more it has a 4.3 litre version of jaguars welsh made v8, and with such a short wheel base and nurbring handling it is very attractive (ohh, and it has one of the best interiors on the market). Also the v8 vantage is much more aggresive than a 911, with a 2 inch lower roofline than a 911. Ohh and then theres the noise! it is the loudest car you can buy! you can hear it from two miles away  the baby aston gives you thw great aston badge, a german heart, db9 interior, fantastic noise and a great chassis. what more could you want? and if you remember it did the same time the 500bhp m6 did! so the 380 bhp it has are as good as 500 in a m6. its not all about power, its about how you can get each and every horse power onto the road, and the aston does this very well. so for me its gotta be the aston martin :)

wow, it's practically dead even.

Porsche for me, M6 looks turn me off, and if I could pick an aston it'd be the DB9 flat out.

Everyone always critisises the Vantage saying "it's not as good as the DB9, I'd much rather have that", but you have to consider that it is like half the price.

These three cars are all around the same price bracket, which makes them even.

I mean it is like saying you wouldn't want a DB9 because you would much rather have an SLR. You could pick up a couple of DB9's for the price of the SLR, plus they are entirely different classes of car in my mind, one being a sports car the other a supercar.

Ohh and then theres the noise! it is the loudest car you can buy!

I'm not so sure of that. I must admit i have not heard the Vantage V8 IRL :(, but i have heard the Ferrari 360 CS full throttle on race tracks and i doubt it's louder than that. That thing was very, very close to being as loud as the racing 360's and could be heard from pretty far away.

edit: And the 500 hp the M6 has might not be so handy on wet bending roads, but take it to the Auto Bahn without limiter and you'll be following Murcielago's
