lol @ Mineworksfine - when they said 4-door track-worthy car for 5k, my first thought was "turbo Impreza takes this easily"

I was actually wondering why no Evo's or STi's showed up. AFAIK the UK had both for sale for quite some time now and something like an Evo 4 shouldn't be too expensive and would be killer on the track.

They wouldn't have provided a pretext to go to Germany.

They could have gone to Japan instead.

Mitsubishi Galant VR4
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
Subaru Impreza Turbo

Just off the top of my head, I know there are more.

No, the cars are damn near impossible to get for under $11k USD, and more in RHD UK markets. Few were made/sold as 4 doors as well.

realy? around here you see a lot more E30 M3s than 190 2.5 16v (i think i've only seen one IRL, and it had dutch plates...)

(doesn't mean the E30 is cheaper though, you'll be paying 10 000?+ for a good example as well)

Or the opportunity to hate on the epitome of cock cars!

Do any of you really picture James wanting to cruise in an Evo/WRX/STi? We know Jeremy is a Ford guy and the Euro e36 M3 is quite a bit more awesome beast than the US variant. I always throw out the 4wd turbo cars as potential second hand buys just because they are likely to be thrashed on where the m3 was likely just posed in for the badge work.

Stupid poll. The Cossie is a really desirable and legendary piece of german porn, but I'd go for the E36. I've always liked the looks of it, the legendary sound of the high revving straight six and great handling with enough power makes me want one badly, and to be honest I don't give a damn what kind of reputation the E36 M3's have, I buy the car for me, not for others to like. And if the poll would be about E30 M3 and the 190E, the outcome would be pretty predictable.

Same in the US, I've seen 1 190 2.5 16v in 5 years around here and a handful of E30 M3s. But you'd still have to pay much more for an E30 M3 since they're desirable and there are few left that haven't been molested or crashed. No one seems to want the Mercs so they don't hold much value even if they're rare.

Must be the ONLY one in the US as the 2.5l's were never sold here.

US market has (last I checked) a good 190 2.3-16v at about $10k. E30 m3's are about there and up to 15k...above that and you're over paying. There are plenty of clean examples but owners don't want to part ways with them. Same reason houses in california or so fucking much... people don't want to move out!

Of the two, I'd rather have the E36 M3 - even if its the US version with the 3.2 engine. I prefer a 6 to a 4, and the years have been less kind to the 2.3 16V Cosworth compared to the M3.

But I was wondering - what if TG:USA were doing that challenge? A 4 door sedan that would be good for track days for less than $7500. An M3 might work, but it would be pretty ragged. All the other cars I can think of would be fail-wheel-drive: Taurus SHO, SVT Contour, Nissan Maxima SE, Jetta GLI, and Acura GS-R. And possibly a Neon SRT4, but I doubt it.
Can anybody else think of anything available in the US under the price cap?
