wonderin how brits "GIT ER DONE" [redneck joke]

European cars (even British ones) are better and more fun, so it's easier :)

[edit: Whee, post# 200! I'm a post whore! 200 posts in 20 days (or something)]

Personality. The reviews on shows like "Car & Driver" are way too formulaic. They spend too much time talking about what options are available instead of throwing the cars around corners and being generally entertaining.

American journalism blows - they're not allowed to be too critical of a car because they're afraid of lawsuits from manufacturers.

Brits are better then americans .. but the japanse are MUUTCH better the the brits (granted not TV shows.. but Videos like Bestmotoring :p)

haha I don't know about that... A mate from japan showed me a TV show that was just some guy judo flipping girls in skirts. The whole show was replays of upskirts.

Granted not on the same par as a good Top Gear ep. but worth a laugh none the less.

hate to say it but that is true how do think car and driver makes thier money

i know only top gear or 5 gear, tell me somethink about american shows,
saw few times car and driver, but not very interestink, and also top dog

MAN!!! LARRY THE CABLE GUY!! i love that guy..

U know Jeff Foxworthy's kids go to my school...friends of my sister...i heard their house is like....huge

They used to go to Mt. Pisgah and if u listen to his jokes, some of them talk about it, now they go to Greater Atlanta Christain School..

Bluecollar TV baby! Seen the one about their decks? lol

American shows are surppresed by Americans thinking everythign they make is really good...i have ot admit Ford and Dodge make amazing trucks...but some cars are...eh

the problem is all the american shows are in bed with the industry so the reviews are bland.. in the UK they're not afraid to drive cars like we all do and tell us what they really think.

Yes again...and its true that American journalists cant be as critical as British journo's. Car & Driver is bland as hell if you ask me

American car magazines and TV get a huge influence from the advertisers. One wrong word and their contract is finished. If there is a personality like Clarkson in the US, there would be too many Americans getting defensive over his sarcastic humour too. This is why we get one year old episodes of Fifth Gear but not Top Gear. LOL

For the most part, American cars do nothing better than to cruise confortably on a straight highway. The cars here actually do not have to be engineered to corner well. Straight line acceleration is all they need. I think this is the reason journalists spend way too much time on describing creature comforts rather than the car's handling characteristics. Who cares how a car handles when there are no turns on American roads!

My opinion also explains why American versions of European and Japanese cars are "dummed down" or softened when they are sold here. Who needs sofisticated suspension or a trick gearbox when all you do is drive straight?

Obviously, fellow American drivers on this board seem to have a more "Euro" taste for cars. Remember that its not only cars; Americans have a mentality all of their own. Come on! Listen to our dirty English!

I'll give another vote to this view as well.

did you see the best motoring where the little fella (the one who drifts the 4 door r-34) has about a 10 minute segment on him "sneaking" into this girl's flat, snooping around, and finding his way into the bathroom where she's in there taking a bath reading a drift magazine or some shit?

it was creepy :)

me too. there was a programme on the speed channel called motortrend (i think). i saw a "review" on the cadillac... might as well have just gone down to the cadillac dealer, looked at the car and let *him* read me the pr pamphlets to me. the fat putz on the tv was pretty much doing only that...

at least i could have sat in it.

I think this is it more than anything else. American cars, and americanized foreign cars, are boring. They're all "much of the muchness" or in american they're all about the same. Soft, quiet, automatic, boat-like steering, and brakes like a sponge. I hate it, but I love my car, no dumbing down there. Firm, sharp handling coupled to a turbocharged 4 cyclinder. :D
