Why do some rear brakes have 2 calipers?

Canadian cars. Heh. Wait, you guys don't make any cars...

Anyway, only automatics have the floor pedal and not even all autos have it. It's basically to free up space in the center console.

we used to make cars but we gave up when we realized that they were shit. sadly americans have not yet come to that conclusion

And where would you have put a handbrake in a ranger? There's no room for them, which is why the brake is in floor pedal form. Oh, and to avoid the "twang", simply put your foot on the emergency brake pedal and then pull the release. This is also how you would use the pedal to slow you down in an emergency, by holding the release out and modulating pressure on the pedal in an attempt to not fry the e-brake...
