Saw ACA, knew where this is going...

Gotta give A Current Affair points for not giving up and keeping on blindly pursuing something with no regard for truth or reason.

I went for a 3.5 hour drive with 25 MX5s on the weekend, a convoy that (with spacing between cars) stretched to nearly a kilometre. I'd estimate that at least 2/3rds of those cars were modified in some way, many quite heavily so. Not once in that time did I see anyone look outraged at a bunch of 'hoons'. Quite the opposite. I saw a heap of thumbs up, smiles and people pulling out camera phones. Reality is people like cars and seeing people enjoy them. It's just a shame there's a very small minority that act like dickheads and tarnish the rest of us with the same reputation.

I feel safer already after watching that

Police around my area have gone a big crackdown against vehicles that are too noisy. My neighbour got slapped with a notice to change the exhausts on his Harley because they were 'too loud'. This is a bike which gets started up at 6:15am every weekday just a wall and a driveway away from my bedroom and never wakes me up. He only drives it to work and the shops and, go figure, he got singled out. They ping someone like him while the asshats down the road, who park their death-trap falling apart badly modified Falcodores all over the footpath, and do burnouts up and down the street every Saturday night get away with making as much noise as they want. Stupid doesn't even begin to describe it.

What the police should be doing is not only actually doing their job (like enforcing speed limits), but ticketing people who drive cars that are complete death traps. I'm talking about johnny redneck who thinks his heavily rusted Nissan that has a bungee cord holding the trunk lid down and the muffler fell off 500 miles ago in Albuquerque. Or the folks that have had their mid 2000s Ford Taurus who think collapsed rear suspension is mighty fine. Why is this shit allowed?

Or burnt out headlights and taillights?

From the articles it seems that's not the types of cars they are going after. I have no idea whats considered illegally modified in Australia. Is it performance enhancing modifications or just stuff like ridiculous rims. As for the noise nothing against Bikes I love them but I have yet to hear a car louder than your run of the mill Harley.

I would purposefully drive around at 4-5k RPM in my Viper just to piss the cops off if I lived in .au. The car is 100% stock -- let's see them give me a ticket for that. :p

That depends on what the law says in Australia, if it is a general noise limit, then a ticket should come your way or even worse they could impound the car. If every car is approved with its own noise limit, then you should be fine.

The sad thing is viper, they don't have to prove that your car is unroadworthy, it is up to you to prove it is.

So they pull you over and give you a defective vehicle notice saying your car is too loud, even if it is legal and you have to go get it tested to prove otherwise.

this comes from a country that has laws such as "excessive acceleration" where you can be find because the individual officer deems you accelerated too quickly. there is no benchmark its simply if they say you did you wouldve have to go to court and prove otherwise.

Wow... "excessive acceleration" and spiders the size of your skull? What reason is there ever to go to Australia?

You'd have to experience a dickhead cop to get charged with excessive acceleration, and it would likely be thrown out straight away in court unless you had one of those judges with a vendetta on 'hoons'.

Excessive acceleration? Dafuq? Where is the problem if you don't brake speed limits.

Also, Australia seems more and more a shitty place to live...

- deadly animals
- no proper internet
- nanny state
- driving on wrong side
- annoying accents
- owned by chinese

Depends on the part of Australia you go to. My area is basically dreary grey England with a slightly hotter summer.... and possibly even more chavs/bogans/rednecks, if that is even possible. We also have glorious tumbling down abandoned factories and homeless folk wandering the CBD ranting about the government stealing our DNA for nefarious purposes, burnt-out historic rail signal boxes and an empty community hall some crazy Melbourne developer once wanted to turn into our own regional version of Crown Casino. :p

I think it comes down to more that the guy with the modified car will have more $ to give to the local rozzers. The guy with the rusted out shitbox obviously isn't worth the time to them.
