Will Top Gear air this week?

why would that really stop the airing of top gear? Its a trajic event but the whole world doesnt just stop...

Of course it will. If they didn't air top gear they would have to not air anything. It's not like it's broadcast live from a subway.

Yeah, I see no reason to not air it. They taped the episode yesterday, so the episode should be ready to air on Sunday. I'm not sure if they show news 24/7 during a major event on BBC2, like most of our stations do here in the states during something big.

I wonder more about the presenters and the audince then the show.

Will they still be in there playfull chiper mood, or will they be a more mellow "Top Gear?

I can't help but think of the first couple of nights of live television after 9/11.

I always thought the clips were done in advance, and they taped in the studio that day. A lot of times shows are preempted over here for news etc, and Top Gear sometimes gets knocked off for Women's soccer so.....

I figured maybe regular programming might be delayed out of respect or something...

What about Forumla one? They race at Silverstone this weekend.

This sunday's won't be different (since they record the studio parts on the wednesday before), but its likely that the presenters and the audience may be a little more somber for next week's (7/17) episode. But who knows, the British may bounce back from this better than I expect, as I myself can remember the couple of nights right after the 24x7 9/11 coverage.

How is this like 9/11? This is more like the Madrid bombings of earlier this year, which probably none of us cared about. :)

Well, I'm sure the Spanish thought their train bombings were like 9/11 to their people. It pales in comparison to 9/11 in the fact of the order of magnitude, but to the people of England, it could be more important to them than 9/11. The reaction probably won't be of the same magnitude in London as 9/11 was here in the US. Just because its not in my country, doesn't mean I don't care about what happened.

The British in general are fairly phlegmatic in the face of hardship. Stiff upper lip may well be a cliche, but its a cliche rooted in reality.

And frankly its hardly the worst or most disruptive Terrorist attack on London, or Britain as a whole, and pales into insignificance compared to the Blitz of WWII, when this sort of death and injury total would be a daily occurence for months on end.

There have been more fatalities in accidents on the underground system, such as Moorgate and the Kings Cross fire than in this attack.

Frankly, compared to death tolls in Madrid and other targets of Terrorism since 9/11, we seem to have gotton off relatively lightly. Sure, it is shocking and tragic to those involved directly and the friends and family, and my sypathies go out to them. But in the morning it will be business as usual (or as near as can be with a few tube routes closed until the crime scenes investigations are completed, which will probably be done over the weekend)

Sure, security will be tightened up a bit, and police will be working to arrest those involved or their accomplices, but for the average Londoner it will all just be an anecdote for dinner parties/pub chats etc in a couple of weeks time.
