It's that time of year, I put my winter rims and tires on my car today:

go buy some tires they use in rally races in sweden, and go like a rally driver, sideways to work :p

Those are Compomotive TH3 rims, and from what I've heard, they're used by some rally drivers  .

lol.. but cool cool, have fun in snow.. u lucky u
your next gadget should be a stop watch, clock your time to work, and try to beat that time everyday, Subaru will sign you instead of Peter Solberg :p

wtf, even HERE ppl didn't put winter tires, don't tell me you had to in USA unless you're in Alaska!

Actually where I'm at it's usually colder than most places in Alaska.
But the reason I put them on was that you're not supposed to drive the summer tires at temperatures below 40 degrees fahrenheit (5 degrees celcius?).
That and snow is forecast, and believe me, you don't want to drive on the summer ones even in a trace of snow (they're nearly slicks).

Aren't there some mountains in california that usually get snow?

Whoo, those are nice. Most people around here don't bother to change their rims/tires. They just let the salt eat away at the ice... and their car bodies.

why? you wanna battle? :p

really? I think they'll enforce a law in Ontario that all cars have to install winter tires for snow not even all season, But I guess it was a rumor. gah lucky quebecians :p i'll move to montreal soon, if all plans go well :):)

Try driving a powerful car, then you'll understand why people put winter tires on cars. :p It's especially bad if you have a powerful rear-wheel drive car. A friend of mine who drives a Supra has major problems every winter - and that's on the west coast! He's had to turn his car around and back up a few hills just to get to work in the morning. I'm sure the STi's AWD would help a tonne, but I would imagine you could run into some tricky situations during the winter with performance summer tires.

Winter tires without spikes, pffh not much use in snow and ice. Just changed my spiked wheels on yesterday :) (now I can eat away the tarmac...)

They'll do ok in snow, in ice they're nowhere near as good as studded (spikes) tires (no comparison really).
But for where I live they're good (not much snow / ice).

yep I'm still on summer tyres, but in a few days i'll chance them. There has been a few slippery mornings already. Just hoping that there will be lots of snow coming and soon so i can ride with my snowsled  .

My dad uses studless snow tires during the winter. Those what those are? They rock. They're super soft and sticky and work WAY awesome even in the dry, they just wear out quicker. :(
