4Car is first to bring you one of the most important new car road tests for 2005. The new 3-Series is better than ever, but does it beat arch rivals Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class? Read on...

Hmmm, the BMW 3-Series...looks like a Nissan Maxima or some sort of Infinity from the back  . Being a Bimmer it would drive heaps better than a Merc C-Class but i'd have to go for the new Audi A4. Its better looking, better value and Audi is on the improve in terms of quality and stuff.

the back on new series looks like a nissan.

they will sell well tho just because its bmw

BMW's would be nice cars if it wasn't for the people who drive them!

Gimmie an Audi any day.

I'll take any BMW over any Audi or Merc..... BMW is a real Drivers cars, mercs. are for old people who don't wna drive. Audi is cool as well but I still prefer a Bimmer anyday

Doesn't look too bad. I was expecting worse.

In a recent Autocar issue, Mercedes beated Audi and BMW. It was 230K againnst 2.0 TFSI and 325i. The best handling was Audi's and BMW's IIRC, but Mercedes was almost as good. I guess they're trying, but it's hard to give up the taxi image. Here in Portugal, at least, every 9 out of 10 are Mercedes.

it's not as bad as i expected it to be...
i kinda like the front, except i never like the pointy head lamps in the first place. the back is only meh....and from the side, as someone mentioned earlier, it reminds me of the altima. it's a step back from the previous generation in terms of looks imo.
i've always been a bmw person, but recently, i'm not really feeling where they're trying to go with the stylings. they all look like they're trying too hard on making them look more 'sophisticated'....

Same Styling... so i don't like it

I think the back looks like a Mitsubishi Carisma, which is an awful car IMO. Aside from the Evo, Mitsubishi's are boring, and the Evo looks bland, but with the rocket engine and the way it handles, it's something I'd love to drive.

The BMW's, I like the old 3 series, I don't like any of the new models, they look too weird, I even think their interior design is awful, I drive an Audi A4, and would definitely buy another Audi, I wouldn't even consider the BMW range.

Anyone know if BMW have seen a dip in sales due to the new design, or if people do as they showed on TopGear with that "You suckers will buy anything" picture

Compared to the 7 and 5 series it is definately better looking, but that is not saying very much. I like certain parts of it but not feeling the kidney grills at all. I have ssen some pics photoshopped with black grills and it definately looks better. We won't know how it really looks until the M kit comes out for and gives it a face lift. Not going to be trading in the E46 for it when it comes out thats for sure. But I did hear that they are going to make a 4 door M3 which I am very interested in checking out.

If that was the case why are 90% of BMW's bought without a test drive.

People buy them because of the badge on the front, not because they're good.
