I thought it would have been the most important car of the year but after reading Top Gears review of it in their mag, I think not. Its not that its not a good car cos it is, but to get the most out of it, you have to be brave and why the hell should you. I'd still take an E55AMG anyday. The E55 like most other mercs is so much easier to drive at the limit. Look at the SLR and just how easy it is to drive even though it has a mountain of torque benethe the hood. Then try handling a Carrera GT. You have to have guts for that.
Also, the M5 is hopeless in town as the suspension is too stiff and the equipment levels is not like on the merc. The E55 is a more comfortable ride. It has all the luxuries of an E500 + a 469BHP engine. And that 5-series styling is hopeless as we know. I hate that bloated look they have given the new M5.
 
i would like a m5 but i bet it cost like a bomb. what is the price tag and is it value for moeny?

btw i saw this new 5 series in wanchai (hong kong) and on the rear quarter panel guess what he stuck...AMG HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA and this wasnt a mistake it was on both sides, i have a photo show u guys later lol BMW with a AMG metal logo lol

@haz: Thank you. They are right about Cloud 9 too. Because I just visited it watching the ad.

The ad in general was amazing. Unlinke the NSX video ad. And I would take that M5 any day. Am I right to understand that no manual with this one??

@SL55AMG-WoW bAbY!!!!: You are absolutely right about the Mercs being more comfortable because that's what they are supposed to be. The M series cars have always been there just for the enthusiasts. But AMG has been coming out with a lot of neat stuff that I wouldn't mind driving :D. Like the E55 as you stated.

@jasonchiu: Correct that.....sorry kinda lost it there. That's a disgrace.
 
I thought the 5-series had grown on me, but no. It is still Fugly!

I would rather buy a used M5 over this one anyday, if it were my money.
 
hmm. not exactly the most important car of the year, but it still has its significance in the market. however, whatever it was trying to do (compete with rs6 and e55 i suppose) it falls short on that in my heard. :(
im not a big fan of the new styling...like i said in some other thread before, it looks over achieved on the styling end.

btw, in that vid, i'm assuming that ginormous knob is the sat-nav control like the one in the 7 series. has anyone had any experience with those?

well, no not exactly. Auto, Motor und Sport (the one mag I take really seriously when it comes to cars) compared it to Mercs CLS55 AMG and the new 911S, and they chose the M5 over both, no doubt .... so ........

I guess only true BMW enthusiasts would love to get their hands on that car. Me being one of them.

haz: That's what I heard as well that it comes with the SMG box. Too bad though that there isn't a manual. :(
 
Hmm the M5's gearbox is quite good :) . It redlines at 8,250RPM as supposed to the E55's 6,400. I'd still take the 55 :D
