Suggested by Andeh to clean up the Random Thoughts thread, here's a thread for car replacement suggestions for me. My max budget is 1500, if it helps.

Disappointingly, I didnt get a reply from:

99 LHS
99 Sentra
99 prism
98 CR-V disappeared overnight.

The 96 prism seller did get back to me, but because of my unreliable phone, I just got his text message (he had sent them at 8 am this morning).

I'm hoping he'll have good news.

Pro tip: Put an old Nokia brick of a dumbphone (there's one in some drawer in every household!) back into service temporarily in order to actually receive important calls and texts on time. Deal with your unreliable smartphone later.

I'm not using a smartphone. The Nexus 5 doesn't have a SIM in it yet. I do all my telephony on this hand me down piece of shit:

I've been able to luckily keep track of messages on the Verizon website and any calls that the phone refuses to answer do get sent to my voicemail.

The 96 prizm seller got back to me, it's still for sale so we're coordinating a time to meet.

Uh, why haven't you just transferred accounts to the new phone?

Move your account/SIM/whatever system Verizon uses to a working hand-me-down piece of shit (I still got this niiiice GH197 somewhere - but good luck answering a text with it :p).

The 96 Prizm seller replied to me, he can do after 5 today. Only concern is it's liable to start snowing around then + i have class. Still, I'm willing to commute the 1:30 minutes to take a look. I'll ask for more photos of the car for sure.

I was concerned about the number porting process and everything. Verizon doesn't support the Nexus 5. I didn't want to do a carrier change in the middle of having job apps out there, etc.

 yeah I'll see if there's a junker around here...

That's not terribly different from the situation you have NOW.

Sadly, those turned out to be crap - fell apart fast.

Emailed!

EDIT: missed spectre's reply on the contour, the ally is a smartphone. I'd need to sign up for a data plan. I found a flip phone in a drawer, i'm activating now...

EDIT 2: I got a reply from the Grand Marques seller, the car was sold for a few days now, they just didnt know how to update the post/flag for deletion.

Lexus = after 12 friday - the guy was given the car but doesn't know much about it. he says it drives well though. I'll keep this one in the back of my mind

beige accord: didnt hear from.

Heard about the gray/green accord in chambersburg though! he wants to meet at 7 to take a look. I now have a conundrum.

Accord: http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/cto/4312526148.html

or

Prism: http://reading.craigslist.org/cto/4312889214.html

I got clearer photos from the seller of the Prism and it's in great shape. The mileage is lower than the Accord as well. The owner does say that it idles a little rough but starts and drives well, also that the key doesn't work in the driver's door.

I scheduled a time to look at the Prizm at 5:15 vs the Accord at 7. Should I possibly push the Accord one to Thursday and check the Prizm out, or should I ditch the Prizm idea and go with the Accord?

A non-carbed car should not idle rough. I'd go with the Accord, but I don't know a thing about Geos, so better ask someone else as well.

The Geos in this thread are rebadged Toyota corollas.

What does this mean for the idle problem? Have no first-hand experience with mid-nineties Corollas, either.

Vacuum leak or fuel filter/injector come to mind. I wouldn't worry much.

Not going to lie, I'm attracted to the Prizm more based on the condition in the pics:

But if the rough idle issue is serious or expensive then i'll easily walk.

Good to know.

Ugh, fake fender vent. Hopefully it doesn't mean the owner was more show than go on the maintenance. Keep us posted on the idle issue; if it's minor you should be okay with it while still talking the guy down.

Visible rust on rear wheelarches and sills. Scratches and dents on the front bumper. Condition is good, but not great. The Accord may have a dent in one front fender and bad paint, but I can't see any rust on the pictures.

Yeah i'll definitely keep you all posted, if I go at all now. *see below*

Good eye. I really don't want another car with rust issues like the Escort, I may end up skipping it now. I'll have to contact the seller.

Contour peeps called back, I told them i'll let them know if I can't show on friday/saturday.

EDIT: I'm calling about this now: http://lancaster.craigslist.org/cto/4293352836.html

It's a 93 Camry LE with 225k on it.
