Your biggest Top Gear gripe?

We all love the show, It's fantastic.. However, What do they do that annoys you the worst? Or what would you like to see less of?

For me?
By FAR it's the, quite frankly, terrible editing. They insist on flipping the image occasionally in order to re-use footage. However, When you do it to a CAR, Which has only 1 person in it, It doesn't bloody work does it!? I would much prefer a Top Gear that shows consistancy, As in a proper timeline of events.. Even if it makes the show look rougher, It will look 'realer'

Prime examples :
  • Little Japanese 4x4 Fox Hunting. The 'fox' splats up some mud onto the camera in the chase car. The 'splat' is clearly on the right of the screen until 10 seconds later when it's on the left.
  • Hammond in that massive anti-riot vehicle a few seasons back. You could see him (Or a stunt driver) inside it, On their own... Somehow changing seats while crashing through the 'production office'

Worth a mention : Get rid of the damn fade-to-shadow-at-edge filter. ESPECIALLY the one that has the fade start a good 5th of the way from the top of the screen. We know blue sky's exist, Stop hiding them!

Can't agree with you mate i'm afraid. Top Gear is without doubt (at least in my and i'm sure most people on heres opinion) the best shot and edited programme on TV. The gripes you mention about flipping images are just part of the process. TV is not real, lets get over it. The sooner you stop trying to pick holes in it, the more you will enjoy it. The cinematography you mention, such as using the filters is again i think very much part of its charm. There's only so much you can do to make a shot of a car interesting, but Top Gear push the boundaries and 90% of their shots are sodding astounding. I say 90% because sometimes the in-car shots are awfully low quality, but that's a minor niggle and i don't really care that much about it.

Everything on TV, even down to the cheapest shows are cheats in some way. Watch Charlie Brookers Screenwipe, as he's great at pointing out these things. The classic one is the news 'noddy' shot to cover editing, or the presenter of a TV show knocking on somebodys door as if they are just turning up, and you see an internal shot of the person opening the door. So CLEARLY they already arrived hours ago, otherwise why would a cameraman be inside the house. Even BBC News pre-record the opening of a lot of their news bulletins! The horror! :D

It's called a vignette and it's used to draw your attention. I also think it looks really cool and compliments Top Gear's incredible photography.

My one beef with the show is the "Star In A Reasonably Priced Car" segment, though I'm sure I'd like it more if I actually knew who the celebrities were.

+1

This is the 4th person now... if I did my math correctly.

I thought we had one of these threads a while ago. Could be wrong.

Really? Guess it's a personal thing, It distracts me if anything, It's like there is a bit missing from the shot 0.o

P.S. I'm not bitching, I'm a massive TG fan and I don't even like cars. It's a fantastic, hilarious show, but it does have it's problems. If you can't accept it has problems then you are just a blinkered fanboi who is doing nothing more than trolling, Really.

How about
'ooh ooh we are famous forum we think people only come here to get noticed, So we treat them like cocks'

Rather than, Just for a second.. Thinking that MAYBE I might just have came to a DISCUSSION FORUM to DISCUSS a topic. If you don't like the topic don't post in it, I personally would like people's critique's of a show I love, To converse with other people and get their opinion, Not your up-yourself anyone new is a fame grabber bullshit just because you think you'll gain some e-respect by being a complete cock for no good reason.

Having a new member ask a question, To turn around and insult them when it's a perfectly good point of discussion, THAT is a total lack of dignity.

As a forum admin myself, I would be utterly disgusted if my members acted like you lot (So-far)

My new Top Gear-related gripe is the 'ooh, ooh, read my thread, Mr Wilman' posts on here. They're are like kids dizzy on lemonade when the write them.

Total lack of dignity.
I've been silently brewing over that one too.
I don't quite get the "they should mention FinalGear", "why doesn't Hamster wear the helmet", and other attention-whore-ism.
Not sure if people will feel important or think they'll be famous or something.
Even if you were thanked or mentioned personally on TV, nobody else will really care for more than 15 minutes.

IMHO, this site doesn't need "acknowledgment" or "recognition" by Top Gear or BBC or anything like that.

Of course we accept that it has problems. We've just taken the next step and decided not to care about it; to many of us it's just a great TV show, and the key word there is "just". We'd rather be slightly blinkered fanboys than "eagle-eyed" nitpicking ones, is all.

First of all: get over yourself, my comments were not aimed at you or your thread. If you take a few minutes to read through the forum you will see what I mean. Andy Wilman has said on several occasions that he visits FinalGear. Consequently, several thread have bee started to get his attention directly.

Read things carefully before you react.

And another vote from me. Why don't you piss off back to the goofs section of uk.imdb.com?

Did you type your thread in an adenoinal voice?

Perhaps you're misreading the posts (or maybe I am), but so far I haven't seen any particularly harsh treatment towards you.
The way I interpret some of the posts that I suspect you have an issue with, is as either humorous or legitimate statements (albeit a bit succinct) indicating the member's dispassion for finding faults in the show.
As far as I'm concerned that's part of a discussion as well.

EDIT: Ah crap, Mineworksfine just proved me wrong.

I want more car reviews, hopefully they'll soon run out of ideas for ridiculous challenges.

As someone who has also done moderating and admin on boards, I can tell you something you should already know: people who blaze in and start getting stroppy and reactionary don't last very long.

Just read things carefully. You'll find that the people on this board are very easy going and there is very rarely - if ever, any unpleasantness.
