First car: 1988 Nissan Pintara - June 2002 (got licence in August) - March 2006

This was the first car, a 2.0L automatic 1988 Nissan Pintara. Purchased it with 266,000km, and about 3 months after buying it, a mate of mine crashed it into a fence post whilst driving on muddy roads. Ended up buying a new bumper and panel for it, but it wasn't the same again. That photo above is from soon after then.

I kept driving it around for a few years, and it just kept on going, but looked pretty shitty, and was pretty slow (78kW 2.0L engine, 1.3 tonne car, automatic transmission). Fuel economy wasn't too bad, 10.5-11L/100km average. I killed the engine in early 2003, put another one in, and split a hose and blew the HG on it in late 2005. Put a secondhand hose (how dodgy) on, patched it up with Chemiweld, and drove it until soon after I bought the Falcon. Here's a photo of just before I got rid of it:

By the time I got rid of it, it had 359000km on the clock. Sold it to the wreckers for $100 :p

Second car: 1994 Ford Falcon - February 2006 - July 2006

This was a big upgrade from the Pintara, firstly because it had power! It had 145,000km, and had a 157kW 4.0L 6 cylinder engine, which pulled really well, but partly due to a dodgy auto box (lock-up torque converter was dodgy, I think), was pretty thirsty, 12.5-13L/100km average. Still, it looked nicer, went nicer, and was much nicer than the old Pintara.

Sadly, on one cold July morning, it had a little accident (very foggy, didn't see a car coming at a T intersection):

I was fine (and so was the girl in the other car), but the car was pretty much a writeoff. Only had 155,000km on it, too :(

Third and current car: 1993 Ford Telstar - August 2006 - present

I was looking around at the time for an early 90's 1.6L Nissan Pulsar/Toyota Corolla/Ford Laser, and spotted this car at a yard. It had 177,000km on the clock, seemed to drive nicely, and at a time when petrol prices had spiked (driving up small car prices), it was fairly good value. It was a bit bigger than I wanted (and runs an 85kW 2.0L engine), but it's more economical than I expected anyway. It's hardly pretty, but it drives well, sounds nice, is comfy enough, goes well enough, and only uses about 8-8.5L/100km. What's more, this car is a manual, yay (the manual and the fuel economy are the big plusses with this car)!

Whether it's an upgrade or downgrade from the Falcon depends on your opinion, but I think it's a side-grade. It's smaller, older, higher mileage, and less features, but it's probably in better condition, and it's more economical, and manual.

Despite some early mechanical issues (blew the HG a month after buying it, but the yard I'd bought it from went halves in the repair, and had the CV joints done), the car's running fine, and it's got just under 200,000km on the clock (I'll hit the 200K mark this week). I'm aiming to hang onto this car until I'm 25, because by then insurance premiums will be a bit more reasonable, so I can buy something better :)

Obviously I don't have one but my dad has had heaps. He really likes his Fiats and he has had a Fiat Coupe, I really liked that, it was fun to even be in. Now he has a Stilo Arbath 3-door.

My first car was an 88' Volvo 740 GLE Wagon, pictured below. All I did was put a system in it.

My second car is a rare 89' Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo Hatchback. It's my "fun"
car. It currently does 12's in the quarter mile on a base tune and a couple mods.

I am currently looking to purchase a late 90's Infiniti Q45t.

Dragging this one out of the weeds, like a bad project car.

1. 1981 Honda Civic Wagovan
2. 1988 Dodge Ram 50 (Mitsubishi Mighty Max with Ram badges)
3. 1986 Acura Integra
4. 1995 Nissan D21 Hardbody Pickup
5. 1986 Honda CRX (Bought wrecked, hard to find parts even back then, still have the engine and transmission.)
6. 1988 Nissan D21 Hardbody Pickup (Bought with engine problems, fixed and drove it some before selling.)
7. 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass (Drag project, never got far with it.)
8. 1992 Saturn SC
9. 1989 Honda Civic sedan
10. 1992 Nissan 240SX (Bought without engine, installed one, drove it and sold it.)
11. 1985 Ford Mustang coupe
12. 1986 Ford Mustang coupe (Bought with the above for $100 for the pair, didn't get far with them and sold them.)
13. 1985 Ford E-150 (Bought for the 351W and 9" for one of the above cars, sold both parts and crushed the van.)
14. 1993 Nissan Altima (Only car I have ever owned with heads-up display.)
15. 1995 Ford F-150 club cab
16. 1991 Ford Mustang coupe (Another project, should have held on to one of these darned coupes.)
17. 1981 Ford Fairmont (This was a rusty pile I bought from a guy as a running 351W swapped running project. Sold it to a friend, I buy it back later.)
18. 1993 Ford Mustang coupe (Yet another one I should have kept and finished.)
19. 2001 Honda Accord sedan
20. 1984 Ford Mustang SVO (Picked this up from a friend, loved this car, kept it until 2011 when I sold it and teared up as it drove off. Found it again later, bought it back and I am slowly gathering what I need to put it back on the road.)
21. 2003 Ford F-250 crew cab 6.0 (Was a great truck until it wasn't.)
22. 1987 Ford Mustang GT (This was an absolute shell I was given, worked on gathering parts and then sold it to a friend.)
23. 1991 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 (Rolled car with supposed good parts, was meant to go into the car below, but engine was no good and trans was bad.)
24. 1991 Ford Mustang LX 2.3 auto (Was to receive the above drivetrain, but never got it. Did end up using this car as a DD for awhile, after #19 was destroyed in an accident, until the transmission developed the cursed A4LD leak, sold it to a friend's brother.)
25. 1992 Ford Ranger
26. 1994 Acura Legend (Bought this to replace #19 and it turned out to be a turd. Traded it for #27.)
27. 2000 Ford Taurus (Former rental car, bench seat, column shift, loved this turd.)
28. 1994 Toyota 4-Runner (Traded #24 for this, turned out it had a light rod knock that I missed on the test drive. Sold because I didn't want to mess with it.)
29. 1999 Ford Ranger
30. 1992 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 coupe (Actual running driving car for once, should have kept this one, but looked like a golf ball after going through a hail storm.)
31. 1986 Merkur XR4Ti ($500 project that came with most everything to assemble back into a car. Got it running drove it some, but it just wanted to fight me, so sold it to buy something else.)
32. 2004 Ford Mustang GT (Needed something to DD, bought this from a shady dealer in another state, the car fought me tooth and nail, got freaked out about the engine and sold it.)
33. 1989 Ford Mustang Coupe (Non-running, but bought it with the below to build. Hurt my back at work, sold the whole thing to a friend.)
34. 1986 Ford Thunderbird Turbocoupe (Was to donate engine, trans and rear end to above Mustang.)
35. 2002 Honda Accord EX V6
36. 1985 Mercury Capri 5.0 auto (Loved this one, bubble hatch and all. Was my daily for a short bit. Sold it to a guy that restored it and sold it.)
37. 2000 Ford Mustang V6 (Bought with a bad engine, swapped in a junkyard replacement DDed for a bit, then sold to a friend.)
38. 2000 Ford Explorer (Bought two of these at the same time, ended up getting one road worthy and sold both to the same guy.)
39. 2000 Ford Explorer
40. 1993 Ford Mustang LX 2.3 (Co-Part purchase, was a total wreck that I thought I could fix, but was way too far gone. Pulled the engine and trans that were good and put them in a later project.)
41. 1985 Ford Mustang SVO (A cheap roller I bought after I sold the 1984, found out why it was cheap when I found some wild rust. Ended up selling it years later.)
42. 1993 Mazda Miata ($400 project, put a new top on it, got it running and ragged on it some before selling on.)
43. 2003 Ford Focus SVT (Daily I bought when a friend got himself a, then new at the time, Focus ST. Loved this little car, but I lost count the number of front wheel bearings I had to put on it.)
44. 2010 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL (DD, wife's car, kiddo hauler, her mother has it now.)
45. 1974 Datsun 620 (Was given to me, but had ridden out a tornado and all the glass was smashed. I eventually found glass, but then it developed brake and fuel problems. Stil working on getting it back on the road.)
46. 1981 Ford Fairmont wagon (Yes, the same one from before. The friend I sold it to was moving out of state and could only take so many cars with him. He had put a 302/AOD in it and pulled the 351W. It was all Fox Mustang GT underneath, brakes and all.)
47. 1988 Ford F Super Duty box truck (Dad bought this as temporary storage, I got it running and he said I could have it when he was done using it for storage. Still have it, planned on making a ram truck out of it, but it's become storage for me now.)
48. 2014 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X (First "new" vehicle, bought it in September of 2015 with 3030 miles on it.)
49. 2007 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (Traded the Focus for this as a friend wanted Unit 9 was stamped on it's key tag, loved this beast of a car, but had too many vehicles and sold it to another friend that put basically a GT500 engine in it.)
50. 198X Merkur XR4Ti (Running driving car that a friend had and needed to part with. Loved this little thing, should have left it stock and just drove it. Did a few upgrades to it and traded it for the next one.)
51. 1991 Infiniti M30 (A friend was selling this on his car lot, he loves Merkurs so we traded straight across. Ended up selling this to a friend's son, then buying it back when he got another car. Sold it again on FB Marketplace. Car was a movie extra in the True Detective series.)
52. 1984 Ford Mustang SVO - Again (Same one I sold nearly 10 years before, still working on getting it road worthy.)
53. 2013 Subaru BRZ
54. 1972 Volvo 164E ($300 non-runner that needed a fuel pump and some wiring. Still have this, but the owner never gave me a title. Thinking I may build a rallycross car ot of it.)
55. 1993 Nissan D21 Hardbody Pickup ($800 non-runner that I put a timing chain kit on and use it to keep miles off of the Frontier. Lowered it, replaced the dented sheetmetal and have even autocrossed it some.)
56. 1973 Datsun 620 (A friend put me in contact with a guy that was selling a running, but not stopping truck for $500. I am a sucker for cheap junk. Still have it, tough my brother bought it from me briefly, before selling it back.)
57. 2023 Honda Odyssey (The first truly new vehicle we have ever bought. Only 3 miles on the odometer when I took it on the test drive. Been a great road trip vehicle that gets high 20s in MPGs.)

I don’t know if I could ever reach your level. Amazing.

Impressive stuff. I’ll probably not even reach 20% of that number in my lifetime… probably a lot less if I can help it 🤣

2001 (ish? Got to driving it with my license in 2006) Smart fortwo cabriolet (the roof-down-thing was the only redeeming quality of this 41 hp 0.9 Liter diseasel pos)

2014 Seat Leon (with the 184 hp diseasel, again)

2019 Tesla Model 3 Long Range

The way things currently are, and despite Tesla being Tesla and musk being increasingly insane… next car would still be another model 3 (with the smaller battery).

Okay, wow.
I clearly have a type:
1998 FIAT Palio EDX (1.0 liter. 65hp)
1994 Suzuki GSX750F
1996 FIAT Palio 16v (1.6 106hp)
1997 FIAT Tipo 1.6 mpi
2010 FIAT Palio 1.0
2013 FIAT Palio Sporting 1.6 16v

FYI we already have an thread on this, maybe someone with more power/influence can merge these?
If that's at all possible without breaking the forum?

I thought it was weird that this thread was abandoned since 2007 and I had vague memories of something similar, but couldn't bother searching.
Ooops.

Yeah this did feel weird - I somehow thought I'd posted this before sometime? I dunno... weirdly enough, this thread is actually older than the other one, so, errrrr... whatever! Merging is probably too much work though, isn't it?

Something tells me, you like foresters.

Something tells me, you like foresters.
Subaru reentered the market in 2007. Opted for a Lexus instead of the refreshed 2018 Forester.

The all 3 Foresters were total loss.

- 1st 2014 drowned in a flash flood,
- last 2014 met an accident on an expressway
- 2008 was a victim of a hit & run at an intersection

Fortunately no one died or were seriously injured. Just rattled.

I like Foresters for the following reasons

- not front wheel drive
- boxer engine low center of gravity & performance of a WRX
- shares the same platform as the WRX
- miniSUV form factor useful for traffic & low floods
- domestic Subaru brand equity is positioned above a Toyota/Honda and below a Lexus
- holds its value as well as Toyota/Honda

I am getting the Forester hybrid for the following reasons

- hybrids (& EVs) are allowed to be driven all 7 days of the week instead of 6
- tax incentives
- fuel economy
- not enough charging stations
- within the max threshold for a vehicle business expense

Once I install solar panels at home & workplace then I may opt for an EV.

I sound old and deflated but I kinda outgrew sedans & fun cars.

Honda entered the domestic market in 1994 hence the Accord & other Hondas. Nice cars.

If I did better at Uni and finished my MBA by 26 I'd likely been driving a Lexus RX or IS since January 2009 when the 1st dealer opened domestically.

What I dislike about the 2015 NX is that Lexus did not include CarPlay/Android Auto until the models after. :-|

All cars should have those head units since 2015.
