No one else uses MPC?! *gasps*

I do use iTunes (music store and archiving CDs in Apple Lossless) and Winamp (USFs) occasionally, but I mostly use Media Player Classic since it plays stuff that the others seem to miss (.ogg mostly), and I use it for all my videos, too. I'm sure the other players have great library features that MPC lacks, but I don't care since I don't have that much music.

I could use WMP I suppose, but MPC is lighter, and in fullscreen the position slider only shows up when you move the mouse near the bottom. I hate how in WMP9 it pops up whenever you move the mouse (no matter where it is) and it shrinks the video at the same time. WMP10 is like MPC in that respect, but the last time I installed v10 it screwed up playback of all .wmv files played in any program, including my web browser.

YOU GUYS ARE JOKING WITH WMP RIGHT?!?!?!?!?!?!

WMP is utter CRAP.

I've been using WinAMP 2.93 ever since it came out. I am not even upgraded to 3.0 or 5.0 or whatever that's out now.

If it works, dont change it.

The security fixes to date for the older versions of WinAmp are quite important, you should upgrade :)

Nothing wrong with WMP V.10 :)

After that I like good ol' Winamp for its cool skins.

Ohhh, you are wroooong! WMP10 consumes sooo much resources, it's freaking ridiculous...

And FYI, there are a dozen of skins for wmp as well.

Winamp all the way, eats no resources, perfectly fine, loads instantly, doesnt have a zillion useless features like wmp that you never ever use. Set it to minimize to traybar, adjust hotkeys to your liking, put in a long playlist, and leave it alone. Works perfectly fine even under games, as it barely consumes any reousrces. For really high quality sound freaks, get that db amp plugin thing, and go nutts.

Winamp, nothing simpler, nothing better, nothing faster.

WMP10 for me, its the only music thing installed on my comp. It works, it saves my track lists, and it plays well. I don't need anything else.

I wasn't really impressed with that plugin. I think the standard winamp sound quality is better.

So what's your favorite and why?
Winamp all the way. :)

  • Sound quality is great.
  • I love the visualizations. (I put them on the 32"tv)
    desk.gif

(Old pic, I now have a 19" LCD instead of that bulky 17"CRT. 8) )
  • Basic controls are integrated in Winbar.
  • It shows what I'm listening to in Messenger.

The Party Shuffle, where u can see the upcoming shuffled playlist is such a simple thing, yet no one else has bothered to implement it. It's perfect! And don't say enqueueing in winamp does the same thing because it's far from similar.

Why? I don't use iTunes, so don't really know what you're on about, but I don't see what could be so great about it that Winamp couldn't do?

When I first changed to Winamp, it got all the file info from the tags of my MP3 files... which was an absolute mess. I spent some time fixing it up, and now absolutely love the way the library works. It's so easy to quickly whip up a playlist and save it, IMO WMP is terrible at playlists... maybe it's just because I can't figure out how to use it.

Winamp also has waaay better sound quality for me than WMP... there seems to be some sort of glitch with WMP and my sound card, every few seconds there's this popping sound... :?

The only problem I have with winamp is the little visualizations in the skin... not the full screen ones. Occasionaly they bump my CPU usage up to 100%... disable them and it goes back to normal. I have no idea why that happens.

Overall though, I have to say that I find Winamp so much better than WMP, iTunes, WMP Classic, or Real Player... can't say I've tried many of the other ones.

Maybe for you. You act as if it murders the computers resources when in my expirience with it, it works fine. My simple Dell 1.995ghz copes perfectly fine with it :)

//edit added the point in 1995ghz :p

Well of course if works fine on your computer, you have 1995GHz! Most of us have to cope with only 2 or 3 GHz. :p

Also, I'm surprised that with so many people using winamp, no one has said "llama" yet.

On it own its ok I guess, but try running photoshop, browser, open 2-3 win explorer windows, and believe me, you'd wish it were consuming literally 10-15times less, like does winamp. ;)

My specs: Mobile AMD Athlon xp 2500+, 1gb ram.

But even regardless of specs, even if I had some uber powerful machine, I would still run winamp, what can mediaplayer do (regarding music playing), that winamp can't do on 15times less resources? ;)

Why waste resources and put stress on your machine, for a simple task such as playing music.

have a decent layout, with on top "file", "edit", "view", ... like any other windows program
(i want universality, everything has to look the same, so no BS-player for me as well)

Why do you need file/edit/view etc?
All I ever use is - Play/Stop/Next/Previous song buttons and that's about it. Actually, I don't even use them in proper terms, I have them on globlal hotkeys, so winamp is pretty much hidden all the time, only time I pop up the window is when I'm looking for a particular song in my playlist.

Dunno why you would possibly need anything else for simple everyday use. :dunno:

But well, whatever floats your boat...

Thats the thing - WMP is familar and recognisable what with being Windows and all. If I double click the bar at the top, everything maximises nicely. Not like Winamp where you have like 3+ docks that need to be dragged all over the screen into a good position and then resized.

Also I'm not sure about Winamp but the Media Player shortcuts on my particular keyboard only function with WMP

You mentioned that Winamp runs like 15 times less resources. Well it certainly doesn't feel 15-times faster/efficiant even when I do have the usual browser/windows explorer/MSWord etc etc, windows open. You play around with PS-programs so maybe efficiant use of resources is more important for you than it is for me.

Shortcuts should work in winamp as well, the integrated mp3 player buttons on my laptop work with winamp, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Well, for me dragging around, max/minimizing etc is not really important. I have winamp always minimized as I said, and it always pops up in the same position on the screen, like msn messenger for example.

I always like things to open quickly, hence I always run my system as efficient as possible, putting as little stress on it as possible, and since winamp has it all what a music player needs, a play button and a play list, I'm perfectly happy with it. :)

Your like me, minus the usage of WMP. When I log on, absolutly nothing opens in the task-bar except for the Safely Remove Devices icon.

Whys Media Center an option in the poll. What is it exactly? Is it Windows Media Centers version of Windows Media Player? Jeffy didn't you say you were getting Media Center...or was that jensked (I get mixed up between you two :p )?

I asked for it, and I think Jeffy bought it. And I cannot believe you can mix us up :). Ok we both have 911's, but it's a completely different colour and so. But if you MUST mix me up with somebody else, I'm glad it's Jeffy and not some idiot. ;)

Surprised nobody here voted for JetAudio. I used to use Winamp back in the version 3 days or something, where it used to crash a lot and was fussy and slow. So I switched to JetAudio, which was free and worked nicely. Now, I've decided to go back to Winamp: it's faster, audio quality is slightly better, and I think it's prettier. 8)

Ohhh, I forgot I also have Media Center on a comp in the livingroom for playing music and recording stuff of the tv.
Can I vote for 2
