Your favourite sounding car?

Because I own it, my lightly modded '93 MR2 doesn't sound too bad. But for holy grails of sound, Ferrari F355, any Aston V12, or the Zonda.

Real sound that I heard (not the ones on top gear etc)
I think(apart from race car) it would be the Nissan Skyline R34 , when I was at Renault-Nissan my office was just over the parking lot for the executives , and after a few days it was easy for me to distinguish 350Z from Clio V6 or Megane RS just by the sound they made , but one afternoon I practically jumped over my desk as I heard something really loud and it was a beautiful blue skyline R34 just coming from the Nurburgring.(it was also the first and only time I saw a skyline)

Hmm, some of my favorites (that I've heard in person)

- LS7 V8 above 3500 rpm (had the pleasure of standing behind the car while the owner revved it up to redline)
- Viper V10 burbling along near idle
- Ferrari, anything Ferrari. That high pitched mechanical vooom, heaven :)
- SVT Mustang Cobra -- that combination of the V8 (which by itself isn't that impressive) with the whining supercharger, I liked it.
- RX-7 Turbo -- sounds like a jet engine -- whooosh as it goes by

Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Well tuned American Muscle reving from idle up to a howling banshee.

Early 1980s Mercedes 5 cyl diesels - because they are just so distinctive and my family used to have one.

Best sounding cars..?

Let's see...

I have to say, I am absolutely sold every time I hear a BRM P15. That was a GP car designed in late forties, and had a seriously bizarre engine: 1.5 litre V16 with a supercharger. The car engine was spectacularily complicated, very powerful for the era(estimated 500 bhp) and horribly unreliable. But it made a glorious noise.

Few MP3 downloads available in http://www.billzilla.org/engread.htm. I highly recommend the three laps file. It has pretty quiet moments when the car is in the far end of the circuit, but the sound of it blasting past the microphone on full throttle is astonishing.

Other car/engine combinations I like:

Porsche Carrera GT
Koenigsegg CCR
Mercedes SLR
Old Ford Escort BDA
The new Ford Focus ST with the Volvo engine
Porsche 911 from late seventies with the air-cooled engine
Late sixties Can-Am cars with their 8-litre competition tuned V8:s
Toyota Supra with throughout engine tuning.

Well, there's a few that spring to mind.

edit: How could I forget the new Aston Martin V8
:bangin:

I think we had a topic long time before, or a poll that was :? , anyway look for an answer there...

I think you mean which engine noise sounds best, there was a poll with 6 cyl, 8cyl, supercharged V8s, ...and missing an 5 cylinder option.

Well knowing that I might be the only one here, I still like those old Audi's with the five cyinder engine best - must be childhood memories of the Audi 100 2.3 my dad had once.
helll yea my audi with an exhaust leak sounds better than my 240. 5 cylinder ftw

Basically any tuned US auto or truck with a V8.

F430
Also 550 maranello (i'm biased)
and surprisingly Infiniti FX45
also ferrari f2006
that's got a nice tune.

and a well tuned VR6 sounds bad ass too!

And also the McMerc and the Z06 sound fantastic! I also love the turbo'ed Volvo 5 pot!

Personally the Aston Martin V8 Vantage with butterfly valves is one of the best sounding cars ever, but my favourite is the Honda NSX, the V6 engine has this amazing growl when you're fanging it, in 2nd gear! :burnrubber:
