5) 1960s Alfa Romeo Spider

I'm glad to see others have appreciation for vintage sports cars. Thumbs up! 8)

Thx :). I saw a restored bright red Alfa Spider in the summer a few years back and all I can say is: Damn, such a beautiful car.

^If money is not an issue, get the Boxster S.

Somehow I've never quite liked the Boxster's styling (both exterior and interior). Maybe the new Boxster will be more suitable for my appetite

IMO, i'd scrap all three (Z4, S2000, Boxster) and get an SLK55 AMG...but thats just me. 8)

Haha...sounds like the discussion Top Gear had in Series 3 when they argued which is the best open top sports car, they drove both the Z4, S2000, Boxster. Boxster was the fastest round the track. But I tink I would take the S2000 as I tink it looks nicer and I LOVE the VTEC system in it.

of those 3 tested in that TG ep, i'd take the Z4 mostly cuz of looks and its a good car. i was surprised by the nice interior when i was in it at the NY autoshow.

hopefully TG tests the new SLK against anyone of those cars so ppl can see that the NEW and IMPROVED, MANLY, MASCULINE SLK is a serious contender for small roadsters segment. :)

Its down to personal preference. I don't want to turn this thread into a debate on which is the best roadster because as JC said in Top Gear, it is "impossible."

S2000 all the way. An original if possible (not the S2200)

Agree. The 2004 is the new 2.2L S2000. I like the 2.0L I-4 in the 2000-2003's better, along with the exterior styling.

Boxster S > S2000

Sorry, but I disagree. I hate the rear tailpipe in the middle, looks like an ass off a mouse. I don't like the ass end of the car at all. The front looks fine though, and the interior is nice. But I still love the S2000 way more than a Boxster. Just my $.02

the styling of the S2000...hmmm, bigger miata anyone?

Hardtop > Convertable

All roadsters are pretty nice, but I'd take a hardtop anyday. Most people don't realize how much structural support a roof gives - even the best convertables can't fully compensate for it.

I'm not a convert fan either. Well maybe I would be if I lived somewhere else... but with our weather here... it's just dumb to buy one..

The S2000 in no way resembles a Miata :x . I tremble to think that you dare compare an S2000 to a Miata. I HATE Miatas (sorry if anybody likes them). Just because they're both convertibles doesn't mean Honda copied Mazda. The S2000 looks as much BMW Z3 as it does Mazda Miata, that is, it doesn't at all. 'Nuff said.

1. 1993 Ferrari 512TR (driven one, its god)
2. Audi Allsport ( Too the mountain in style)
3. BMW M3 CSL ( autobahn)
4. Ferarri 360 Modena ( can i have two ferraris?)
5. 1967 Shelby GT500 ( burns rice :) )
6. 2004 Mustang SVT Cobra Convertable ( those nice friday night dates in portland.. Viper knows what im saying)
7. 2004 Subaru WRX Sti with new motor and turbo. Rally fun up in Mt hood.

 Grrrrrrrrrr. I really like Miata's. :p

They are incredibly fun cars to drive - great handling, quick response... they could use a bit more power, but they are still a blast.

And anyone who calls them a chick car based on their look, grrrrrrrrrr to you to. The styling is a direct homage to the Lotus Elan, which was far from a chick car.

The only thing that would stop me from buying a Miata myself is that I'm over 6 feet tall, making them extremely painful to drive for extended periods. :(

I don't like being so low.. I mean it's extreme.. I'm not a guy who likes minivans or SUV's but in a Miata you're much lower than in a regular car and it feels weird...

Lower = better handling though :p

The Miata really recreates the vintage British sports car feel. In some old British roadsters it feels like your'e sitting on the pavement.
