Seeing the thread about that guys civic getting a little bump it made me think 'that's not a real accident'. So post your worst (pics preferebly).

Here's mine... hit some water going not too fast actually, went up a little embankment and flipped it. Had a couple of tiny cuts but was fine except for that. This was a few years ago mind, I'm not this stupid now...

Enjoy.

I managed to rear end someone pretty badly in the Sebring. My bumper went under hers (2006 Honda Accord), so she got a crack in the plastic, while I got a smashed radiator, headlight pushed back through the antifreeze tank into the engine bay, crumpled hood, torn bumper, and smashed fender. Car was nearly totalled but since there was no frame or engine damage, got it fixed anyway. Car was perfectly reliable since.

Turns out something did get bent though, since the car always pulled a bit left after that.

Not nearly as bad as flipping the Mini!

In life it's important to never make mistakes.

was overtaking a lorry on the right with my astra, and just when i thought i'd passed, he changes lane and hits me on the rear wheel, went around 2 times, through a 3m wide green barrier made of bushes and ended up on the left lane of the road in the opposite direction...i just had to start again with the traffic, and made a U-turn at the first crossing to go fill in the papers

got a fine for overtaking on the right (50?), but the lorry driver has been put in fault for the accident caus he made a manouvre and first should've checked if everything was clear (even if i was in his dead spot)

and once as a passenger in a golf II when we were waiting at the lights, a ford galaxy ran into the back of us. luckily it was a galaxy, it just scooped us up and threw us in the 7-series in front of us. both seats were broken off, but none of us had any injury, not even a whiplash

Have had one yet with me behind the wheel. The worst I was involved in was when I was an infant and I was thrown from the back seat of a Chevette through the windshield when my mom hit some black ice and rolled the car.

While I don't remember the event, for as long as I could remember I told myself I'd never get in a Chevette and give it a 2nd chance to finish the job.

How can any mum not put a seatbelt on their kids? Just.... outrageous.... I really don't know any English word that is worse enough to characterize that...

I haven't had a crash in my/a car yet. And i hope i never will.
Just had some on my mountain bike... Worst was when i fell on the head and my helmet bursted in a hundret pieces. I don't know what happened. I lost memory of everything until about 1 hour before the crash and about 6 after.
Well... i wasn't unconscious. I even phoned sb. myself with my cellphone to pick me up and take me to the hospital. But i don't have any memorys that i did that. I also had a lot of tests. X-Ray of the head... even MRT. I did everything myself there and was awake all the time... but i don't remember any of this. Later that afternoon i went to sleep for a few hours and when i woke up, everything was normal again. Well the memory hasn't come back, but i could form new memories again after the nap.

Really strange. But i didn't have any physical injuries. But i was lucky that it was a cold day and i wore a skiing jacket. That was also ripped in pieces but didn't go through to the skin. In summer i'd have been seriously hurt.

My old Subaru GL was t boned by an 80s era Merc. I survived with only minor cuts (I hit my hand on the windshield while the car was spinning).

It was an interesting experience, didn't see it coming all I knew was that the world was going around me suddenly.

guy lost control in his mini van in the snow, hit a guard rail, jumped into my lane, bounced off an e30 bmw, totaling it and head on into me

Hmm....where is MXM:p
my worst was when I had a volvo, I would say within 2 months of me having my license. It was the result of me being stupid, braking too lake before a T intersection (the road I was on did not continue past the intersection), and in the "oh shit" moment, I forgot to at least try to turn the steering wheel, so I plowed into a pole, head on, that was at the end of the road. The damage totaled the car. It looked like tranceporter's sonata, but the damage was on the driver side and the front quarter panel was mostly completely taken off. Axle broke, wheel bent the frame, and the front support was mostly shot. Car still ran, but the axle was broken and the frame was bent. I remember thinking "oh hey, I can drive out of this" before the cops or anyone else drove by, so I threw the car into reverse and tried to floor it. A lot of dirt was kicked up, but there was no movement. No airbags went off. I think I hit the pole at about 20-25 mph.

I probably could have avoided totaling the car by at least trying to turn. There would have been damage, but it wouldn't have been too bad.

Had the rear tire blow out in the middle of an S-turn, went straight into the outer side of the last half of the turn. Hit the curb, the bike bounced over the curb, skidded on its left side (tail towards the street). The case guard caught on something, rolling the bike around it's long axis (not incidentally ripping off the mirrors, bending down the handlebar, smashing the speedometer, bracketry, and turn signal), skidded on its right case guard in the softer mud there (the second skid portion), filling the gap between the engine and the case guard with mud and debris. Finally, the case guard caught on something and flipped the bike over again, onto its left side, where it dug a nice big hole in the soil, bending the handlebar up, and came to rest with it's front wheel cocked up, resting against this nice, big, solid wall. And, not coincidentally, on top of me, after I'd smashed head first into the wall at an angle and gone tumbling.

All traffic on the road stopped; apparently seeing a 500lb. vintage motorcycle fly through the air with the greatest of ease was rather impressive.

I went to pick it up out of the impound yard afterwards; it still started and ran like nothing had happened.

I've had higher speed crashes and I've had longer ones but this was the worst to date and the one that hurt the most. I still ride even so.

When I lived in Germany (about 14 years ago), I went to Heidelberg for the day with my wife and in-laws. On the way back to Schweinfurt, we decided to take the back way instead of the Autobahn, because my in-laws wanted to see something other than highway (it was dark, but I was not going to argue). So, it was about 9:45 pm and I was just cruising along in my 95 Dodge Neon (which I freaking HATED!!), but it was kind of raining on and off, and it was just wet enough that the road was glossy. I was headed down a hill and into a looong very gradually sweeping right hand curve, and we were pretty much the only car out there. Off in the distance I see a car coming towards us, and as he gets closer I see him swerve hard to his shoulder, then back the center line, then all of the sudden he was sideways sliding right at me. I tried to swerve into his lane and get around him, but it all happened to quickly and I struck his car just behind the B pillar. I was going about 60 mph when we hit, and he was doing somewhere north of 90. The collision was so strong that the back end of his Escort ripped clean off and went over the guardrail! My car was smashed up pretty good, and was on fire, but everyone in my car walked away with nothing but some NASTY seatbelt bruising, and a cut on my wife's head. The other guy was trapped in his car, and got helicopter evac'd.

At the trial, he claimed that he was trying to avoid a squirrel.... yeah right... night time, raining, and doing 90... squirrel my ass!

I've got a VHS tape of the damage, but I am too lazy to go get it and capture images. It certainly was not pretty though.

How hurt were you after this? Did you have your gear on?

I was wearing full safety gear that day, which was a little unusual. You'll have to take into account that this was back in 1998 when gear was a lot more expensive yet a lot less protective than it is now, and it was the beginning of summer when I crashed. I had on an open face helmet with fixed faceplate (yeah, I know, but it was a concession to the vintage look of the bike - still stupid not to wear a full face one), an early textile jacket, strap on joint armor, strapped on chest and back armor, heavy denim work jeans, boots and gloves. All that stuff cost a total of about $2500, as I recall - and every single piece of it was destroyed in the crash. Absolutely worth it, though, to stay out of the hospital.

Normally, I would have forgone the joint armor or the chest/back plate due to the heat but for some reason I'd decided to strap it on that day. Damn lucky; my injuries were mostly limited to severe bruising (lots and lots and lots of severe bruising - both tissue and bone bruising), cut lips, cut chin, and minor jaw dislocation as well as multiple joint sprains. Had some minor abrasions from, of all things, the safety gear rubbing on me. The worst I got from the accident was that my right hand got joint damage at the base of the thumb and it doesn't work quite like it used to - it's got a bit of a 'notch' or 'click' at the end of its travel going back. It could be corrected surgically, but it's not worth the risk (per the orthopedist) because it really doesn't affect much and I'm in no pain from it so surgery isn't a good idea just for that. If they ever have to go into my hand for another reason, sure, I'll have it fixed then... but I have a reminder of my crash every time I flex my hand to tab the starter button on a bike, or pull the hammer back on a firearm.

I did get up from the ground on my own afterwards and I did get an ambulance ride to the hospital ER - but they only kept me for a few hours and then discharged me with a couple of prescriptions for painkillers. Hurt like hell for three months while all the damage healed up, but I still ride today.

Of course, better gear than what I rode in that day is everywhere and stupidly cheap these days. A few years later, I dropped a Goldwing 1000 on an oil-slicked hill and thanks to the newer generation gear I was wearing, I wasn't injured at all despite whacking into the pavement and sliding for a few hundred feet. I just laid back, waited for the sliding to stop, and enjoyed the spectacle of the GL1000 grinding off bits and pieces of metal including the valve cover. One hell of a spark show.

Annoyingly, my worst crash is the one where I was on a dirt bike and hit a loaf of bread or a brick or something (was't really looking) that was in the road and faceplanted.

Pictures can be clicked for bigger ones.

On my way home from work I went at about 60 kph out of town as all of a sudden a VW Lupo came swerving from the next bend at about 70 or 80 kph, I had no chance avoiding that crash. Luckily I wasn't injured besides a black and blue mark, I don't want to know what would have happened if I had driven the '94 Ford Fiesta I drove only 3 months earlier...
The last pic shows the center console and the buckling of the dashboard between the center console and the part of the glove box, I had to completely rip the glove box out of its mountings to get the things that were still inside.

What's remarkable is that the Lupo, which is a very small car, hadn't had the windscreen cracked and the driver's door could be opened completely normal, whereas my windscreen and both of the windows in the front doors cracked and the driver's door of my car has been moved about 10 cm to the rear so there was no chance in opening it. I had to get out through the window (after I managed to secure the notebook from work which laid in the passenger's footwell).

I damaged a track rod end off road as I 'crashed' over a sharp decent, does that count?

Long story short: It was the morning after a snow storm in April, less than two miles from my home. I was going down a 30mph two lane road at about 20mph approaching a blind hill/curve. The snow man screwed up cleaning the road, and only cleaned 3/4ths of the road, and piled the rest of the snow on the last 1/4, on my side. So I'm already kinda in the middle since half my lane had 2+ feet of snow on it. When I get to the crest of the hill, I see a giant white Lexus LX barreling down at me at around 50mph. Not feeling like being killed, I tried to get out of the way, at which point my passenger side front wheel hit the 2+ feet of snow, and I went sideways, hitting a light pole. The airbags didn't go off. Pissed, I got out of my car, threw my cellphone against my car, and started running down to the street trying to get the guy to stop, (he didn't). I got back to my car and the airbag had gone off in the mean time. I also noticed that one of my brand new winter tires (rear-drivers side - had them mounted a few days earlier), has come off the wheel. When the officer got there, he say I had a non-working phone, and probably guessed I didn't have a camera, he told me that I could possibly get back at the town for improperly cleaning the snow. By the time I went home and got a camera, the snow plow obviously came by. And the other officer just started laughing. Asking why, he said that he saw the for sale signs in my windows and "guessed I wouldn't be selling that anymore." Then he told me that he had almost called me about the car a few days earlier. Then I remembered that a few days earlier a cruiser followed me all the way to the gym, and while I was in there, he looked at my signs. But he thanked me for the service because he "saw similar accidents with Honda Civics, and those got completely destroyed," I essentially took down the pole - and that he would "buy a C4 Audi for his kids for sure."

Never found that Lexus, but the officer did list him in the police report. I was quoted $1500 to fix the body and mechanics. Then another $2500 to fix the interior. Considering I paid $4000 for the car, I decided not to fix it.
