Your worst crash

Worst wreck I ever had wasn't much compared to some of these. To sum things up very simply, I ran an '85 Camaro at 65mph into the back of a 2000 Cavalier going 10mph: totalling both cars. My Camaro was still driveable, but the subframe was twisted beyond repair. The Cavalier was destroyed. The bitch pulled out right in front of me on a state highway. My shoulder belt failed, letting me slam into the steering wheel (1985 model, so no ABS or air bags). I broke two ribs, bruised my left collar bone and gave myself a hell of a headache.

I was so pissed off I couldn't get out of the car for sometime. I was 19, it was pretty much my dream car. When I got out (in December, in the US midwest, 30F tops outside) I was shaking. Not from the cold, but from adrenaline, pain, and suppressing the urge to kill the woman and the cops who thought I was lying through my teeth. Worst day ever. December 23rd, 2005. Merry fucking Christmas. Yeah, I'm bitter ...

One hell of a spark show.
I dropped my '74 Yamaha while turning onto a brick road, going about 25-30mph. I smashed my left ankle really good when the bike dropped onto it (wearing good work boots, but not riding boots). The only thing I remember is seeing sparks flying from the flywheel cover in slow motion. Almost worth it.

I have never crashed a car or even been a passenger in an accident.

But I did reverse into my own house once. I was only going at walking pace but it was still a very odd sensation to just suddenly stop dead without any deceleration. The Mercedes-Benz was fine but there's a bit of a dent in the house now.

I've only been involved in one (if it's even considered a crash per se), I parked my car Greenbelt's (one of the more popular malls in here) parking lot, and some idiotic twat rear ended my car, I didn't get a hold of him (or her).

Pretty boring, I know.

I haven't crashed a car myself yet, thankfully (although I have come close to having one through excess speed and stupidity, and escaped only through sheer luck) but I have been in a car accident. As a child (I think I was 4 or 5 years old at the time) my mum's old Mazda 323 got rear ended at traffic lights. It was only a low speed impact, but the vehicle which hit us was a 4x4 utility with a bullbar, so it left a decent dent in the hatch lid and it never quite shut properly again after that. I can still remember the noise and the jolt in the back. Luckily I was strapped securely in my carseat. My mum was also fine.

It was a pretty minor incident, but to this day if I see a car coming up quickly enough behind me in the rearview mirror I feel my back muscles tighten involuntarily.

No pics, But the worst crash I had was a teenager on a moped plowing at full speed into the side of my ford, horrific site.
Poor guy took the impact with his.....euhrmm, ass so luckely he survived with 'only' a broken leg and part of his ear severed , moped had slid under the real wheels and was broken pretty much in half , guy laying there with his leg in a weird angle, face covered in blood from his ear, window out on the truck, huge dent where he hit......that could have ended realy badly......

Nothing serious yet, touch wood. Only driving mishap is spinning out on ice and bending a wheel.

It was raining, I was practicing left foot braking, have no ABS... locked brakes and went wide a corner into a ditch. Front bumper got damaged, 200? to repair, no biggie.

Thanks for sharing your experience Spectre. I really does show that all that gear is really usefull and possibly life-saving. I see morons riding their bikes in shorts, once my dad saw someone in slippers/flip-flops, and those guys are just playing with their lives.

I hate those idiots - they give the general populace the wrong idea of motorcycle riders, distort our accident statistics and drive up my insurance rates.

The only plus is that statistically they are often a self-eliminating problem and generally remove themselves from the gene pool before they can reproduce. :p

If we are counting accidents in which we were a passenger, we had the whole family in the old Chevy Lumina APV (awesome vehicle for a number of reasons) when some idiot in a Cadillac Deville decided he was going to take a left turn across the median on a divided, 4 lane road. T-Boned us right in the passenger side door, where my grandfather was sitting. I hardly felt anything in the 3rd row. We pulled over, and the Cadillac was completely destroyed, whole front end crumpled in (guy must have been going pretty fast, somehow). Both the other driver and his passenger went off to the hospital with knee injuries as the dashboard had moved a bit.

As far as our car, my grandfather had a bit of a bruise but was otherwise ok, and the Lumina took no structural or interior damage. We continued our drive to the ice cream shop

Later on we replaced the door and fender, and that was the extent of the damage. Even so, the car could have been totaled if we wanted, as a 1990 Chevy Lumina with 100+k miles in 2002 wasn't worth much.

I rear ended a Land Cruiser back when I had the LR Discovery, wasn't my fault though, the ABS pump litterally failed, and I just slid right into the Land cruiser.

The worst was when my car was clipped by a vette doing over 100 down by where our old shop used to be. I was just a few feet away working on a customers car, he damn near hit 3 our customers checking out a car parked right behind mine.

The fucktard got another C5 unfortunately.

My worst at the wheel:

Cruising at 75 in the left lane, approaching a truck doing 55 in the right lane. Spotted an older M5 (not entirely sure what generation because I only spotted the badge for about a second while I was looking at his tail light having an "Oh shit" moment) approaching FAST from the rear in the right lane. "This guy's going to hit that truck." I thought to myself. Sure enough, he comes alongside me and passes most of my car just as he reaches the point-of-no-return with regards to the rear bumper of the truck. I'm looking at his tail lights and his left blinker comes on (in the same instant I spot the M5 badge and the Washington DC dealership plate), and the fucker jumps fast into my lane.

I manage to avoid him by moving even further left onto the grass median. If I'd stayed where I was I would've clipped his rear fender with my front fender and caused a massive accident. However, my recovery was not to be - the tail end of the car broke loose, the drive wheels caught pavement and pulled me back up onto the road (I guess I hadn't taken my foot all the way off the throttle).

At this point, I was at a right angle to the direction of traffic, the last few cars before a nice big gap squeezed by in the far right lane and on the right shoulder. I countersteered and tried to pull out of it. I would've, too, if there had been just one more lane. Instead, I went nose-first off the right edge of the road and ground to a stop on my rocker panels just short of taking out one of those gigantic steel signs.

I could've driven away if it weren't for the fact that one of my drive wheels dangling in the air. As a result, I paid $75 to get towed one car length backwards. Damage was minimal - some heat shrouds on the underside got dinged up by debris, the bit of my front fender panel behind the right wheel well got bent a bit (I bent it back with my hand), and the jack flange on the bottom of the right rocker panel is bent all to hell. I have pictures somewhere. Cops didn't really believe my story ("How could anyone know exactly the model of a car AND identify dealership plates of a car they only saw for a second? How much have you had to drink?") so I've learned a valuable lesson - next time, I'm hitting the fucker. I got lucky on damages this time around.

Worst accident in which I was a passenger? 45mph in a Ford Tempo into the side of a Civic Hybrid. Walked away.

In short, a tribute to my late, lamented 1997 Ford Aerostar XLT, with only 88k miles on it.

I had just dropped the kids off at elementary school not 15 minutes earlier. My wife prefers the back way to her work, rather than the autobahn that is 220 in the mornings. I was in the lead of a line of traffic coming over the slight hill on a two lane back road. It's a slightly industrial stretch, with a third-world auto shop and junkyard, the county dump and a light industrial park along the road. The only person coming from the other way was a 2002 Chevy Avalanche, who was doing about 50-55 and fishtailing the entire distance. It was raining, and the dipshit had taken the slight curve under the Natchez Trace a bit too wide, and his tires and dropped off the asphalt and onto the gravel shoulder, three inches down. That's enough to start the severe fishtailing.

I came over the hill, and knew I didn't stand a chance. I had no where to run, and couldn't stop in time. I did my best, going offroad and hoping I could at least run the van into the grass and out of idiots way. Nope, fate wasn't buying it. You can see the damage above. I'll point out I wasn't seriously injured, nor was my wife who was the passenger. If the kids had been with us, it would have been a different story. His vehicle swerved one final time, and t-boned my van in the side, right behind the drivers door. Needless to say, the van's now a fond memory. That asshole is probably still driving his truck, after they pulled the front bumped back inline.

Say what you want about my choice of vehicles, I do miss the sheer utility of that van.

Now they don't wear protection when they ride, what makes you think they're going to wear protection when they ride?

As for my biggest accident, a deer ran into my old Escort behind the front wheel, then spun around taking out my driver's side mirror and the rear fender, knocking me into the ditch (I was going 60-80km/h in winter). Nothing too severe, but still $2,500 of damage.

I had a deer run into the side of my Focus. It uh, popped a door ding out. I had an accident and came out with NEGATIVE DAMAGE.

This was a serious deer, these dents wouldn't pop out.

The only deers that I've hit were already dead. I ran over a good size buck years ago in a Chevy C10 pickup. I was going probably 75mph down a 2 lane highway, I crested a hill and there he was: laying right in the middle of my lane. I think I had time to get out one or two choice words before I ran it over and nearly went fishtailing off the road.

There wasn't any damage to the truck, but the mess on the underside was terrible. I did my civic duty and went back to get the deer off the road. I won't say exactly how bad of shape the deer was in, just that I would've needed a shovel to pick up a lot of him. My truck smelled pretty awful until I washed the underside off a few times.

:barf:

Fortunately, I don't have too many hectic crash stories to share. Surprisingly, with my driving style, I only went through one accident, where I lost the backend of my Merc in a tight 90? right hand corner that merges the onramp to a bridge. Being a novice driver at the time of the accident (5~6 years ago) , I had very little experience with grip loss and dynamic weight control. I was basically relying purely on my reflexes and instinct, which without real world practice, both proved to be utterly useless.

Come to a think of it, I was the one that caused the accident. The slipping angle was very small, and I could have easily caught the spinning wheel and the slide with throttle control. But it was a different story when both of my arse cheeks told me that the shit was real and that I've lost the backend of the car in a tight right hander. The immediate reaction from me, the inexperienced noobish driver at the time, was to apply massive steering lock to balance the car. Truth is that I over corrected the car, resulting in a massive tank slapper that sent the car flying backwards, a full 180?(or more) spin, heading straight for the kerb on the side of the bridge. The crash took place on the bridge's sidewalk, roughly 2metres off from the edge where the right front wheel has mounted the kerb..... 2 metres more and it would have been a fatal accident. The car would have lauched off the bridge and dive straight into the busiest street in CBD Durban.

That pretty much sums up my one and only crash. Shortly after the crash, I traded the Merc for a new AWD Impreza. And in a quest to improve and to satisfy my thirst for performance driving, I would go on to experience a full, aggressive 360? spins on a weekly basis. At the end of the day, I'm very grateful that the crash didn't take my life and my mate's life away (who happened to be a passenger at the time of the accident).

1. was rear passanger in a low impact rear ending of our car, old neighbur didn't see us braking to a turn right and hit us.

Result: trunk did open, but didn't close.

2. Was rear ending a golf with mopedscooter @ 45kph,
Result: she had a minor paint redone to her golf, and my scooter had about 300 eur new front plastics.
