Ironic how they ended last week's 2 seater review with this... since I'm in the exact same predicament and need to buy something next week. Does anyone know if Topgear reviewed any of the above and in which episode?

now there's a predicament I wouldn't mind finding myself in...

TG have done a Z4 - Boxster - S2000 comparo - Nov 2 2003 (it's the previous model boxster though)

I'd choose the boxster... no, the Z4... no no no, the boxster.... nooooo the Z4.. einy meiny miny... MO!!

That's actually perfect since I was looking for a CPO boxster anyway and I don't think they've changed the Z4 at all.

I can't recall the exact episodes but I will try to give you some help in picking from the three (I've researched and driven them all)..

If you don't have lot of money get the S2000
If you want the most raw sports car, get the S2000
The BMW is a great value point if you want a mixture of performance and luxury
The porsche has the best "image" and most luxury, but you'll pay for that.
If you want to track the car a lot pick the porsche and s2000 over the bmw which is less balanced.

Get the Boxster.

so what you're actually saying is that unless you care what other people think of you, get an S2K

What moved me into the direction of BMW and away from Porsche, was that service was included with BMW. Which is a definite plus. Although, I do really like the boxster. Tough situation you're in.

Take your time, when you buy a car like that you'll regret it..

Boxster - poor mans Porsche
Z4 - nice car
S2000 - perfection

exactly what i thinks about it.. come on.. the s2000 is the nicest, the most beautiful, the best car out of these three.. ;o)

Boxster is the obvious choice.

And if there was no Boxster, the Carrera would be the "poor man's Porsche." Flawed argument and it's the only argument against buying a Boxster the haters can come up with. Give it up...it's old and ludicrous.

And that's about where it ends.

Yep. Oh, save for the horrid low end. Ah yes, and the digital gauges. And did I mention the absolute God-awful low end? I think I did, yeah, I probably did.

S2000 is far from perfect. Though I will give you this: for the price, I probably wouldn't take anything else in its bracket.

I always thought the S2000 looked a little wimpy until I saw it in black.

I think I'd go for the Boxster - it looks the best IMO.

Agreed, that whole "poor mans Porsche" thing is Jeremy Clarksons crap! Its a great car in its own right.

Funny, no one has mentioned the SLK....a bit more pricey but certainly worth it considering what you get :)

Genius! I LOVE it!

i have to say the S2000 for this one...it's the most bang-for-the-buck vehicle...which just happens to be perfect. mind you, the earlier S2000s had a very twitchy rear end that would kill people, but the newer ones have had some suspension tweaking to fix that nonsense.

Boxter, well. james "captain slow" may has ordered one.
and the Z4....is still not that pretty.

But: If you buy a Honda, you end up with a...Honda

If you want a real driver's car get the model before 2004, they're more fun to drive.
The backend of the later models may be a bit less twitchy but they messed up the balance of the car with the soft shocks at the back (not only the soft shocks but also the steering wheel, anti rollbar, etc ... but their less important)
Not a lot of reviews will reflect what i'm saying but only the ones that have true car enthusiasts do agree.
If your just buying the car to cruisse a bit then don't mind.
You also may get bored from the "all or nothing engine", if you know what i mean.
I know all this cos i own a 2004 s2000.
Myself, i'm thinking about buying an elise or something in the future (if they supercharge it or i'll be able to buy a version with an engine with more midrange punch).
Sadly it has come to that allready after 1 year ownership.
The s2000 is still the sportiest of the bunch though but i would wanna trade it with a Boxter S (not buy one).

By the way, Fifth gear also has a Z4 vs. Boxster review in the 2005.03.21 episode. Basically they seem to be quite even, but the Boxster is supposed to be a bit more balanced when pushed hard, while the Z4 has a bit more power.

Personally i find the Porsche pretty, but also quite boring, all Porsches look a bit too much like each other and they're actually getting a bit bland to me. I find Porsches to be a bit of a clich? although i have no doubt its a great car.

I've always been kinda divided on the Z4 looks, however last week when i was in Sicily i saw one in black, and frankly it won me over big time. Looks so badass. That would probably be my choice.
