1998 Subaru Liberty RX Bilstein Edition (MY FIRST CAR!!)

You seem to like taking pictures of your car :p
Olympic park is a great place too take pictures, but then alot people take pictures there.

Because wagons are cool!

Its also something we'd like - something practical we can chuck the dog in without having to worry about cleaning up the rear seats afterward.

Those Gen2 Liberty wagons are hard to come by in my state. We found one (manual) 2-weeks ago and put a $1000 deposit on it. Later that night, we cancelled the cheque as:

1. the car had "no prior records" with the government motor authority (RTA)
2. Dealer wouldn't permit pre-purchase mechanical inspections (very unusual)
3. The motor organisation he claimed to be apart of, he simply wasn't.

So luckily we didn't buy what could have been some stolen, rebuilt, money oweing car. Here's a pic I took of it:

Certainly seemed like a good car and I would have preffered it but I'd rather be safe than sorry. There are many crooks out there....pfft....used car salesman - gotta watch out.
My aunt has one of those....but its green...and an auto

Hehe nice buy, shouldve gotten 5spd though!

Car got hit

Car got hit

Just an update on my car - its got a decent sized dent in the passenger door now thanks to some SOB of whom, never presented themselves to me

I noticed in on Saturday and don't know for sure how it got there. I suspect it might have happened in a McDonalds carpark but then again, it could have just happened overnight parked on the road - I don't know.

The weird thing is there is no deep scratching on it and there are only scuff marks which leads me to believe that it could have been a shoe or something?? No idea...

Also - I'm having my front bar painted as when I purchased the car, the paint was peeling and there were some scuff marks on the bottom. This is how it looks now after being repaired. It'll get painted one of these days...

During my short holidays, I intend to:
  • Have the car serviced with Subaru - yeah it costs more but it offers piece of mind
  • Have car detailed
  • Install some xenons
  • Get tinting done - darkest legal (35%)

Gonna be tight to pay for given I now have this bloody dent to take care of

The mind set of some people pffft, really sorry about the dent - Your analysis of the damage seems right on to me, nearside door and the look of the damage, strange I had my car scratched across the bonnet in a MacDonalds over here recently.
I like your idea of the tinting and really 35% should look OK. The Xenons should be really good, if you go into the country at night it is much better for vision.

Damn SL, some people are just arseholes - here's hoping it's all shiny and smooth again very soon.

^damn SL... that sucks, I'm thinking about installing some HID's as well on my car and tinting it as well ... but the dent really sucks though, that's why I try to park in a corner lot away from SUV's or coupes

Ok yet another update on the life of my car and this time, its a good one

I have had some extensive work done on it over the past week:

  • That damaged door has been repaired and repainted. But on top of that, I decided to get the other three doors repainted as they had some minor scratches and dents that I purchased the car with and I figured it would be best to have it all fixed once and for all whilst I had the opportunity + its cheaper when you bundle it all together.

  • That front bumper pictured a few posts up was also painted and looks like new :)

  • There was a small dent in the rear corner which was fixed as well.

  • The car was detailed inside and out. That included interior shampooing and a cleaning of the engine bay. Its never looked better!

  • Also - I got tinting done as we need it in this hot Aussie Autumn of ours. I got the darkest legal tinting possible and it too, looks great!

I'm definately not a professional photographer and I know this forum has heaps of those...be kind, don't laugh at my rather simple photography style. I used a video cam btw, haha.

What'd you think about the car and my photography skills which I'm *trying* to build up?

Nice photos. Although, it is a bit ordinary, that's the only thing! and having a proper camera always helps ;)

Car is looking fantastic now! Yeah, always park as far away as possible from other cars. Or take set up a big advanced rig of cameras on every angle of your car.. and you can catch anyone who does anything to your car!

Nice job SL... I'm still trying to get some cash and time to get my Windows Tinted... glass is wayy too clear for my liking :p, but next time be a man and do the detailing yourself... you get a better sense of satisfaction :p

TRUST ME...I know about that satisfaction!

We have two Obsidian Black Mercs and two mica blue Japanese cars (Lex and my Subey) in this household and I detail them all! I'm in my final year of school and my weekends are consumed by detailing them. In my holidays, I'm detailing something everyday!

I just wanted my Subey to get PROFESSIONALLY detailed (buffed etc) once and for all as it probably hasn't had that pleasure in many years I guess.

Oh my obsessive love of cars

^btw, just curious... how much did your tint cost? I haven't had the chance to get multiple quotes, I heard its around 300?

SL - car's looking great - nice to see it all straight & shiny.

@ Andy - we just had Mrs. fbc's Focus tinted - $295, darkest legal tint, quality product etc etc.

Nice! Looks good after a thorough clean and the freshly painted bits seem to have come up nicely. If you ever find out who dented the door I'll be happy to break their legs at half my usual cost.

When you clean it what sort of polish do use usually use? Do you use any kind of wax at all?

Also, since I'm such a stickler: You really should put it in 'park' if you're going to be getting out of the car.

A very popular place to get tinting done in Aus is Sol-Ace due to their reputation. Their darkest legal tinting package is called "Midnight Express" and it retails for $395 but they have no problems giving a discount if you just ask - I paid $345 and got a free bottle of window tint cleaner. It comes with a 10-year warranty which is good too. Check out sol-ace.com.au

When I polish once a month, I use none other than Gold Glass Meguiars as after lots of testing of different products, it gives the best result on the parents black Mercedes. When I wax, I use another Meguiars product.

In between washes when we get long sunny periods, I just dust the cars with some microfiber cloth and apply a spray on Meguiars speed detailer.

^ I think Sol-Ace & Tint-a-car (large franchise in Vic) must be related - they use the same products (our Focus also used 'Midnight Express') and their store colour scheme is very similar.
