Look's great! That color of head and you fix'd it right away. How are you going to make 2&3 exhaust manifold's gasget last?

By replacing it when the middle bit burns out :p

That is looking fantastic. Also love the color of the engine :)

I thought the green would bring a nice bit of retro touch. As a bonus, even the paint is period correct to the car: :p

EDIT:

Also spotted a recurring theme in the engines I've been building in the past year or so.. Can you tell that I like the sound of individual throttle plates :p (Also: Ford.. )

Also realized that I've built all the exhaust manifolds for the three engines as well.. (along with the usual things like assembly, modification, timing, tuning, etc...)

Modified 4-cylinder Ford engines that span around 40 years of engine designs :)

What do you think of this then? :)

It really isn't too far off now :) Pictured here is the engine hoist that we used for the installation :p :

Also finished the heater bubble:

Webers are engine porn.

Enginebay needs some wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off as the bubble shines and makes rest look so not shiny. 10 po?ng for the engine hoist and the look of the engine. What kind of airfilter(s) you will use?

This thing is coming together pretty quickly. I'm loving it!

I might buff it up a little, mechanicals come first though in the list of priorities :) As for the air filters, I'm not 100% certain, For the autumn I'll probably just slap some Pipercross sock-type filters on ( http://www.britishracecar.com/SydSilverman-Lister-Jaguar/SydSilverman-Lister-Jaguar-CI.jpg ) , and if I end up driving the car in the winter (not in salt though), I'll run open trumpets.

Anyway, the gearbox is also installed on the car now and the clutch has been bled. Next weekend will be exhaust manifold and alternator fitting (and about a dozen of other small things like throttle linkage, water hoses, etc.), but realistically I'd expect the engine to fire up sometime next week :)

Engine start up should be sometime next week at this rate, got quite a bit done this weekend :)

Alternator fitted:

It's actually from a Valmet tractor :p Got a hint from a fellow Cortina owner that it fits straight on with minimal modifications, and it even has the same connectors. Had to make the adjustment bits myself, but that was a pretty easy job :)

Exhaust manifold:

Making the headers didn't take all that long, maybe around 6 hours in total, with a lot of head scratching and fitment testing. The tubes are all equal length, and the fitment is very good with lots of clearance everywhere :)

Next up is the exhaust system..

That Valmet alternator was a top tip, a very good upgrade.
What else on the electrics needed changing to make it work?

Manifolds look nice too, good job.
(Computer designed or old fashiond "Mk. 1 Eyeball"?)

Come on, does it look computer designed to you? :p I just used some J-bend bits of tubing (one of them is visible in one of the pictures), an angle grinder, and a length of string to measure the primary lengths, they are all equal length at around 71cm from the cylinder head flange to the collector :)

Btw, also got some filters from a friend :p

I was pulling your Finnish leg there. :p

I sort of guessed that :p

These 2 pictures illustrate quite well how much I needed to modify the exhaust manifold, which, according to the seller "should fit a Cortina just fine" I expected that I would need to make some tweaks to it, but not cut up and rebuild the whole thing.. :p

Exhaust manifold seams welded:

What do you know, it still fits :) Probably the best one I've made so far.

And today after work I tacked together the entire rest of the exhaust system, took around 3.5 hours, just needs seams welded, some mounting points and paint :)
