Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

Big Jag sedans tend to have slightly higher liability (damage to others' cars/property) rates than many of the competition. Mostly because they're actually sturdier than Volvos and have been known to destroy houses.

I wonder if W126s are known/thought to be even sturdier, because the quote I got for an '89 560SEC was even higher than that for my current XJR, despite having fully half the book value.

That's certainly possible. I wouldn't know, I wasn't paying attention to Mercs crashing into houses at the time. :p I only noticed the Hollyweirdos crashing into/destroying houses with their Jags because they had Jags. :D

I didn't pay any attention to what I (as a kid) thought were boring Teutonic boxes. I certainly didn't learn to appreciate the 80s Mercs until I became an adult many years later. :D

Well we can test this. To the craig's list!

Oh and Spectre, how is that crane, skip, and Marina doing?

I have the crane and the skip, but the guy with the Marina is acting squirrelly.

So the Morris Marina Club has a U.S. chapter.

Oh and in light of the forum's growing hatred for the XJ40, might I suggest the following. Show the two, in dramatic fashion, launch and crash into one another. Then out of nowhere drop the skip on them.

If Texas switches to RHD after the revolution, I will be upset.

My old boss had the tonneau cover for a TR4a in his garage. People just accumulate junk.

But critically, was it a RHD TR4a tonneau cover?

I've always wondered what had the nicest looking rear end, out of the Lambo wedges.

I kinda like the Diablo the most.

I agree. The Countach is hideous, and the other looks like it is brain dead and probably drooling. The Diablo looks the business.

Could have been, I don't remember.

If it is, he is a bastard.

hmmm ?15000/year for full coverage on a SL65AMG - bargain!

OK, srsly, I just wasted two hours checking insurance costs, why don't I ever think of these things to do when I'm not supposed to be studying? Oh well, all I know is that I can't afford car insurance anytime soon.

Im trying to resist the urge to buy a lot of crap for the Sierra.

I could get a new block with Wiseco pistons and stronger Saab rods for 80?, a new head&cam package for 70?, a Garrett t03 + turbo manifold for ~500?, a new lsd for 200?, a new gearbox for 100?. Bigger disks all round for ~150-200?, a new stronger clutch for around 200?..

..

If I had someone to work with me on the car, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

EDIT: Those parts, along with megasquirt (EDIT: and new injectors) would give me a reliable 250-300hp for everyday use.

You would still need to figure the entire steering thing.

I've got 2 power steering pumps already, and I have a Ford Scorpio steering rack (2.5 turns lock to lock) lined up. Just need to get the hoses, new fanbelts and connect it all up. :) I've also got a new steering wheel, but it needs new suede/alcantara to top it off.

Wait, weren't you the guy who was gonna get rid of his car and buy a new old ford? Sorry if not, I get all you Finns mixed up, especially the ones whose names start in p.

I was considering buying a 78 Ford Escort, but honestly I can't afford it, so Im keeping the Sierra for now.:)

OK, so you are who I was thinking of... that's a relief that I'm not that senile yet.
