One guy I heard of got caught in some "cloud-suck" - which is where a cloud is developing into a storm and forms it's own updrafts. Even with his glider in a dive he was still being pulled up and topped out at over 23,000 feet! He finally was able to slide off the updraft and dive like hell out of icing conditions before he lost his lift.
